TRB Standard 1Value and Care for Students

Chantelle speaks respectfully to students, staff and

parents. She respects diversity in the classroom and
tries to create an atmosphere of acceptance and
understanding. -Carol Minchin, Practicum Supervisor

I talked to the students informally during breaks and

class.
I established a friendly rapport between the
students by showing an interest in their lives.

+
TRB Standard 2
Role model who acts
ethically and honestly.

Chantelle brought a professional approach to all

aspects of her teaching practicum. She was punctual,
well-dressed and began each day with a positive,
welcoming demeanor. She spoke with a clear, calm and
relaxed manner. Carol Minchin, Practicum Supervisor

I listened to the suggestions from my practicum

supervisor and sponsor teacher and applied them when
necessary. For example, the teacher suggested brain
breaks. I implemented a Chinese brain break and
taught the students how to count to eight in Chinese!

+
TRB Standard 3Knowledge of student
growth and development

I applied the knowledge I learned from Vancouver Island

University into the classroom. Some examples include Oh Deer
(Gym), Madlibs (Language Arts), Math Stations (Math) and Hands
on Science Experimentation (Science)

The use of choice can be a great motivator to students and

Chantelle incorporated this into her lessons when she could. For
instance, students had a choice of novels to read for their novel
study, they had the choice to work in groups or on their own for
some activities, they had a choice of topics for their Social Studies
inquiry, they had a choice of playing a game cooperatively or
competitively etc. Carol Minchin, Practicum Supervisor

TRB Standard 4Value the involvement of

parents, guardians, families
and communities in schools.

I attended all staff meetings and most workshops

I communicated to parents through Freshgrade. This

website was good for communication with parents
about their childs progress. I talked to a parent who
believed that their son was able to receive a better
mark on their tests. The next day I gave this child a
retest and they received a much better mark

I communicated informally to any parents who came in

before or after school about their childs progress

TRB Standard 5Effective Classroom

Management, Instruction,
Assessment, Evaluation and
Reporting.

Chantelle is not only able to manage students when they are in

their desks with more confidence, she is able to manage the
"behaviour students" out of their desks in more dynamic situations,
such as the gym. Today, for example, I would feel comfortable not
being in class (or the Gymnasium), and she would be more than
capable of handling every situation that comes her way. Ian Low,
Sponsor Teacher

I am becoming more comfortable with methods of instructions,

assessment, evaluation and reporting by using Freshgrade, written
tests and other forms of in class assessments

+
TRB Standard 6Have a broad knowledge
base and understand the
subject taught

I am comfortable with teaching in English and French

I try to do as much research as possible in the subjects I

am teaching. I visited libraries, borrowed materials from
other teachers and communicated with my classmates
about lessons. I also emailed my professors about ideas
for lessons and units.

I integrated Aboriginal Content into my Social Studies

Unit on Governance

+
TRB Standard 7Engage in career long
learning

I attended a workshop about Fetal Alcohol Spectrum

Disorder in the spring

In the future, I plan to attend more Professional

Development activities and workshops

I consider myself a life-long learner with an open mind.

I will always be researching new methods and theories
that I can apply to the classroom. Teaching is an
ongoing learning process. There is always room for me
to grow and change in order to become a better
teacher

+
TRB Standard 8Contribute to the profession

My sponsor teacher was a technology specialist. I

learned about coding and game design from observing
him. In the future, I intend to learn more about
technology in order to implement it in the classroom

I volunteered with cooking and cleaning during the Gr.5

Sleepover

I allowed students to stay in class at lunch and recess

to finish school work or homework
