ACTIVE AND PASSIVE

VOICE

THE DEFINITION
Active Voice
A feature of sentences in which the subject
performs the action of the verb and the direct
object is the goal or the recipient: The mechanic
fixed the car.

Passive Voice
A feature of sentences in which the object or
goal of the action functions as the sentence
subject and the main verb phrase includes the
verb to be and the past participle: The car was
fixed by the mechanic.

How to change from active to


passive voice
How to change from active to passive sentence is
not difficult. Staying put any object in active
sentences are usually there at the end of a
sentence be at the beginning of the sentence. In
addition, the first thing you must remember is the
main verb in the active sentence should be
changed to the third and preceded by to be, which
must be in accordance with the objects that
preceded it. VERB FORM OF THREE (past participle)
is in the passive voice will not change, no matter in
what tense of the passive voice.

How to change from passive to


active voice
Step One: Identify the subject of the sentence

- who is doing an action? The training is not


doing an action, so it can't be the subject. The
only person or thing doing an action here is
the maintenance staff. They are attending
training. So, the maintenance staff is the
subject of the sentence.
Step Two: Rewrite the sentence so the subject

is performing the action. This sentence could


be rewritten to active voice as follows:
