Types of Human
Memory
How is the
human brain able
to restore and
forget memories?
There are
different types of
memory that are
able to retain
and remember
and types of
memory that
forgets
Short-term
Memory
Long-term
Memory
Sensory
Memory
Short-term
Memory
Short-term Memory is the type of memory
where it retains information for a short period
of time but it could also be determined as to
whether it get transferred to long-term
memory or that person forgets about it. This
process could take to no more than a minute.
Short-term Memory is also considered to be
known as working memory.
As we grow older the short-tem memory tends
to weaken because of illness or age.
Long-term
Memory
Long-term Memory is a
memory that is able to
be retain information in
the part of the brain for
a period of time.
Long-term Memories last
up to a few days or for
many years.
These are memories
such as remembering a
birthday or remembering
your phone number.
Long-term memories
has its own
sequence types of
long-term memories
such as:
Explicit Memory
Implicit Memory
Memory & Morpheus
Explicit Memory
Explicit Memory is also divided into two
groups: Episodic & Sematic Memory.
Episodic Memory are types of memories
such as remembering an event, names,
also remembering and episode of a
television show.
Sematic Memory is more of knowledge
memory. It is learning and remembering
a book or remembering a lecture from
one the classes that was taught that
day.
Implicit Memory
Implicit Memory is considered a
procedural memory. There are
procedures through out the day that a
person does constantly that you do not
necessarily have to remember how to
do. Examples would be brushing your
teeth or taking a shower.
Memory &
Morpheus
Memory & Morpheus is more of getting
a good night sleep. The brain needs to
rest when you sleep. If the brain does
not get enough rest, the person is not
able to remember most of their
memories. That includes the explicit
memory where it is known as
knowledge memory. The brain has to
have a full 7 to 8 hours of sleep a night.
Sensory Memory
Sensory Memory is the shortest type of
memory. It has the ability to retain
sensory information for the current
moment. For example sensory memory
is could be considered as the five
senses. The fives senses are sight,
hearing, smell, taste and touch. For
example if I would to smell food, I would
smell it and forget how it smells a few
seconds later.
