STELLA
Stella is a systems thinking for education and research. Its offers a
practical way to dynamically ,visualize and communicate how
complex systems and ideas really work whelter they are first time or
experienced modelers, teachers ,students and researchers use Stella
to explore and answer endless question.
How does climate change influence an ecosystem over time?
Would Hamlets fate have changed if hed killed Glaudius earlier?
How do oil prices respond to shocks in supply and demand?
What will happen when the ozone layers is gone?
How do basic macroeconomic principles affect income and
consumption?
Easy-to-use, Stella models model provides endless opportunities to
explore by asking What it and watching what happens , inspiring
the exciting moments of learning. Thousands of educations and
researchers have made Stella the gold standard , using it to study
everything from economics
to physics. Literature to colours ,
chemistry to public policy ,college and researchers communities all

Stella models allow you to communicate how a system works,

what goes in , how the systems impacted ,what are the
outcomes . Stella supports diverse learning styles , with a wide
range of storytelling feature. Diagrams ,chart and animation help
visual learners discover relationships between variables in an
equation . Verbal learners might surround visual models with
words or attach document to explain the impact of a new
enviroment policy. Example

BUNGEE JUMPING
VIRTUAL

INTRODUCTION
Bungee jumping is relatively new sport. The jump it self is related to the
ritualistic practices of land divers from the Pentecost Island in the Pacific
Archipelago of Vanuatu . These men demonstrated their courage by jumping off cliffs
while attached to vines ; they do this in hope of a plentiful harvest of Yams. In 1997
,the Oxford University Dangerous Sport Club jumped off a bridge themselves after
being inspired by a film about the vine jumpers. During the 1980s ,the sport
flounshed in New Zealand and Frances and was brought into the United State by John
and Peter Kockelman of California. In the early 1990s facilities sprang up all over
the country with cranes ,towers and hot air balloons serving as platforms
I use the software Stella from isee systems to model a bungee jump. Bungee Jump
is a simple Harmonic Motion , having many component with relationship. For
example , student can use Stella to model the bungee jump the relationship between
the mass , the displacement and the gravity and strands in bungee cord.
The intent of the project is to develop an understanding of the mathematics and
physics involved in determining the motion of a person bungee jumping from a
platform a certain height . Newtons second law of motion which is for every force
there is an equal and opposite reaction .

Hookes law which is related to the elasticity of the bungee cord ,

some of the basic laws of physics such as force which in this case
referred as gravity, different approximations of nation for the jumper.
The free fall of the jumper , as well as the damped harmonic motion
during the influences of the bungee cord , will be analyzed . The effect
of height , mass ,gravity and elasticity of bungee cord is included in
this stimulation.

VIRTUAL BUNGEE JUMP:INTERFACE

The background and context menu, this

menu is telling us about the application of
this experiment in daily life.
The objective is to obtain the perfect
bungee cord for chosen weight and gravity
by neglecting the air resistance.

VIRTUAL BUNGEE JUMP: SIMPLE

EXPERIMENT

Point A show that the length of the bungee cord initially which can be
read at Point D column ( Altimeter reading ). Point B and C is a knob that
uses to manipulated the weight of the bungee jumper (load attached to
bungee cord ) and strands of the bungee cord. Point D also show three
column which can be change it unit of measurement by double clicking
the column. Point G is the button where student need to click if student
want to start the experiment, while Point F is the button to click if
student want to stop the experiment immediately at any point.

The bungee jump is calculated graphically and the knob is

added to four. Meaning in this Extended Experiment, you
can manipulated more factors that effecting the bungee
jump such as gravity, height of platform and strands in
bungee cord.

This map it show all the relationship in physic view for

bungee jump. With this, student can see clearly how the
simulation take place. Starting from the height of
platform is the calculation is displacement from
platform measure by altimeter.

This graph show the real equation and calculation in the bungee
jump virtual simulation. In this part student can change the title,
time, equation, graph and unit of the bungee jump virtual model.

Student can change the name, value of knob, words,

and anything that related to the knob in the
Extended Experiment or Simple Experiment. Same
as other button function.

Conclusion
The physical and computer models are
dynamic. The students can see what happens
when a rainfall event occurs and understand
the role of retention/detention ponds in
reducing flash flooding and sediment pollution.
It is rare that dynamic phenomena can be seen
in the field. Video and slides frequently do not
convey the dynamics of natural and
anthropogenic processes, in part because they
are not interactive.
