Objectives of the study

To increase the production & consumption
of mushroom
To empower rural communities with
entrepreneural skills through the
production and safe of mushrooms
And to develop such value added
programmes like mushroom production at
school level

What Are These Things?

Many mushrooms grow towards light,

following the sun just like plant. Unlike with
plants, scientists do not yet know how
mushrooms use sunlight; only that they
do.

Nutrition

Who knew?

~ Mushrooms are an excellent source of

copper, a mineral that the body needs to
produce red blood cells and for other
functions.
~ Mushrooms have significant amounts
of B-complex vitamins
~ 0 fat & carbohydrates

Mushroom Colonies
Mushrooms are often in groups or colonies.

Do not eat mushrooms that you find in

the wild. Some are edible and some are
toxic (they will make you sick)

Production of white button

1. Prepare the substrate
2.Pack the plastic bags
3.Incubation
4.Fruiting& harvesting

Needed materials

Straw
spawn
Plastic bags
Threads
Needle or pin

1. Prepare the substrate

chop the straw into short pieces
Wet it and heat the straw in boiling water
about half an hour
Remove the straw and drain it
Then spread it into a clean surface and
cool it

2.Pack the plastic bags

Pack 2 or 3 inches of straw into the plastic
bag
Lightly sprinkled the spawn on top
Repeat it until you have almost filled the
bag
Close the top & poke holes in the bag

3.Incubation

Keep the bag in a dark room

At 15-20for 15 days
Sprinkle water
Humidity about 85-90%

4.Fruiting& harvesting
Fruiting body will start to appear after 1216 days &it will continue 21-25 days
You can harvest in between these periods
It takes appox 10 weeks to complete an
entire production cycle.
