    The banking industry in the Philippines experienced periods of lax and restrictive entry and branching regulations from the 1950s to 1990s. In the 1950s-1960s, there was lax entry into the industry, but the 1960s saw the Central Bank of the Philippines become very restrictive in its policies. Deregulation of entry and branching occurred in the 1980s and 1990s, leading to significant increases in banking offices and branches as well as new entries and consolidations in the industry.
