The school administrator has a responsibility to
promote his own in-service education. As an
educational leader, he must keep abreast of the
latest in educational development as well as of
trends in pedagogical theory and practice.

It is also important that he read extensively on

topics that will broaden his cultural horizon. This can
be do by having a program of in-service education.

Administration should be responsible and

accountable if it should work for the improvement of
education which it is supposed to perpetuate.

Our knowledge of the fact of teaching is meager.
The act of teaching has received less attention
than its central role in pedagogy would seem to
require.

WHY IS OUR KNOWLEDGE OF THE ACT

T H E R E F O R E I N A D E Q UAT E ?
There is too much emphasis on conditional
admonitions and too little attention given to an
analysis of the behavior associated with these
intentions. In other words, except for the most gifted
teachers, there is a gap between the teachers fairly
good intentions and the teaching behavior which
occurs in the classroom.

The analysis of teaching behavior can be done

through interaction analysis.
It is a system for observing and coding the verbal
interchange between a teacher and his pupil.

A teacher can never truly teach unless

he is still learning himself. A lamp can
never light another lamp unless it
continues to bum its own flame.
