What do you think the purpose of annotation is? Why do people annotate a text?

Purpose:

Help you make connections with the text - other text, real word, yourself.

Understand and comprehend what you are reading/thinking about.

Develop critical thinking skills by analyzing what is going on in the text.

Annotating Marks
1. Identify central idea by underlining and paraphrase in the margin
2. Identify thesis by drawing a box and paraphrase in the margin
3. Circle unknown/important vocabulary words
4. Mark evidence with a magnifying glass
5. Interesting information with !

8. With each mark you make, write a comment about why you wrote the mark in the
margin
