Generic Name: Codeine Linctus

WHAT IS CODINE LINCTUS ?


Codeine is a light painkiller, but also
suppresses the cough reflex in the
central nervous system.

-Cough

USES OF CODINE LINCTUS

-Treat Diarrhea
-Pain Relief
-Migraines
-Back Pain
-Cramping

COMMON SIDE EFFECT

Drowsiness

Constipation

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Codeine Should Not Be Use :
Have untreated asthma / other breathing disorder
Paralytic ileus (a bowel obstruction)
To a child just after surgery
For child, codeine can cause slow breathing and cause death (breaks down
rapidly in the liver and reaches higher than normal levels in the body /
overdose)
For a pregnant women (baby could become dependent on the drug & may
cause life-threatening withdrawal symptoms after the baby born)
While breast-feed baby (can pass into breast milk and may harm the baby
that may lead to life-threatening side effects in the baby)

REGULATIONS 10 -DOCUMENTS TO BE OBTAINED


BY SUPPLIER OF CONTROLLED DRUG
The supplier or the one who supplies the controlled drug must be a practitioner or a
pharmacist otherwise it will not be sent due to the drug is not being specified as
CONTROLLED DRUG
The supplier who supplies a controlled drug(should be in the prescription) otherwise it will
not be delivered :Obtained a requisition in writing: Signed by the supplier himself
Name, address and occupation of the recipient
Giving the reasons why the supplier supplies the drug and tell its total quantity
If the person is reasonably satisfied that the signature is the person purporting signed the
requisition and is engaged in the profession or occupation specified in the requisition: A practitioner ( the recipient ) represents that he urgently required controlled drug for the
purpose of his profession and so the supplier may give to the practitioner.

A person who has given such undertakings as aforesaid shall deliver to the person by
whom the controlled drug was supplied a signed requisition inaccordance with the
undertaking.
The persons referred in bullet 1 areI.

A practitioner

A person who is in charge of a laboratory, conduct scientific educationor research and


attached to a university or any other institution approved by the minister

III.

Master of a ship in port in Brunei Darussalam ( does not carry shipss surgeon )

IV.

The ships surgeon of a ship in port in Brunei Darussalam

. A furnished requisition by the master of the ship or ships surgeon not being a medical
practitioner, container a statement signed by the port health officer that the
quantity of the drug is to be supplied for the equipment of the ship.
. The person that is responsible for dispensing and supply medicine at any hospital
that supplies a controlled drug shall ;I.

Obtain a requisition in writing, signed by the recipient and specifies the total
quantity of the drug that is to be supplied.

II.

Mark the requisition to show that it has been complied with any requisition obtained
for the purpose of this paragraph shall be retained in the dispensary at which the
drug is supplied and a copy of it or a note of it shall be kept by the recipient.

. Nothing in this regulation shall have effect to the drug that specified in the first schedule.

REGULATIONS 11 - FORM OF
PRESCRIPTIONS
The person must issue a prescription containing a controlled drug that was specified
in the first schedule; must be in ink
must be written by the person issuing it in his own hand-writing
The name and address of the person for whose treatment is issued for - veterinary
surgeon
Name and address of the person issuing the prescription
How many dose were to be taken and ensure that the prescription contain -controlled
drug, the form, the strength, total quantity and dosage to be supplied
Contain a direction specifiying the amount of instalments of the total amount to be
dispensed.
Lastly, a prescription issued for the treatment of a patient in a hospital and shall be in
a one subparagraph written on the patient's bed card.

REGULATIONS 12 - PROVISIONS AS TO
SUPPLY ON PRESCRIPTION
A person shall not supply a controlled drug except that is listed in the First
schedule on a prescription: Unless the prescription complies with the provisions of regulations 11.
The address must be specified in the prescription as the person issuing it is
an address in Brunei Darussalam
Unless if the person knew the supplier signature then it has no reason to
accuse that it is fake.
The prescription must be specified before the date.
Later than 30 days after the date specified in the prescription
The person who dispense a prescription that contain controlled drug should
mark the date on which it is dispensed and it is legally or safe to sell at any
shop the person he wanted to send.

REGULATIONS 13 MARKING BOTTLES


AND OTHER CONTAINERS
The person shall not supply the controlled drug unless it is in a bottle,
package or other container that is plainlymarked The controlled drug is already prepared that made up into;Tablets, capsules or other dosage units with the amount of each
component of preparation.
Not yet being made (ready made) total amount of preparation in
bottle, package or other container and its percentage.
Nothing should have effect this regulations first schedule or the supply
of controlled drug or prescription of a practitioner.

REGULATIONS 14 - KEEPING OF
REGISTERS
Any person who wanted to supply any drug that is specified in the Second or
Fourth Schedule should follow these requirements : The provisions of this regulations does not follow the arrangement of
things one after another in time. Therefore, it should be referring to part 1
and 2 of fifth schedule (due to it may require particulars of every quantity
of a drug specified in the second or fourth schedule either the persons is in
or out of Brunei Darussalam).
Use separate register or separate part of register for enteries of each
class of drugs and each of it is specified in paragraphs 1, 3 and 6 in
second schedule.
Nothing shall be taken as preventing the use of a separate section
within a register of different drugs or strengths of drugs.

REGULATIONS 15 - REQUIREMENTS AS
TO REGISTERS
In order to keep a register under regulation 14, he shall follow these
requirements; The class of drugs enteries shall be specified at the head of the
page.
Every entry was to be made in regulations 14, in such a register shall
be made on the day which the drug is obtained.
No cancellation, obliteration or alteration of any such entry shall
be made. correction of note or footnote.
Must be in ink every entry or every correction.
There is no other purposes other than for the purpose of these
regulations

The person so required to keep such a register shall made demand to


any person that is in charge writing by the minister in that behalf
I.

Furnish such particulars requested in respect of the obtaining or


supplying by him any drugs that is specified in the Second and
Fourth Schedule.

II.

The purpose is to confirm any such particulars in his possessions.

III. Produce the said register and such other books or documents in his
possessions relate to any dealings in drugs specified in the Second,
Third or Fourth Schedule as may be requested.
. A separate register shall be kept in respect of each premises at which
the person is required to keep the register carries on his business or
occupation but not more than one register is being kept at one time.
. Every such register in which entries are currently being made shall be
kept at the premises to which it relates.

REGULATIONS 16 - RECORD KEEPING


REQUIREMENTS IN THE CASE OF A SHIP
Does not require any official log book or a report
that is signed by the master because anything
in these regulations is enough to supply.

REGULATIONS 28 - DESTRUCTION OF
CONTROLLED DRUGS
No person have the rights to keep records with respect to a drug
specified in the second or fourth schedule shall destroy the drug
or cause the drug to be destroyed, except in the presence of any
directions from the minister then he may allow.
If the person is required by any provision, the record shall include
particulars date of destruction and the quantity that has been
destroyed and is signed by the inspector or anywho that is in charge
of the drug destroyed.
The master of the ship have no rights to destroy the drug or
cause It to be destroyed but shall leave it to the port health
officer or to an inspector.
