Similarities
Both my magazine and the existing magazine have a branding logo of
what the magazine is related to, this identifies the producer of the
product. Mine is a logo of the college using the set colour scheme of the
college itself (purple. green and white.) The fact I used the college logo
will mean that the magazine is related to the college subjects, signifying
then anchored genre of my magazine. The VIBE branding is a simple
logo in black and white which also anchors the meaning of the magazine,
Real Rap, which means the magazine will be music related, specifically
hip hop/rap.
Mastheads of both magazines are in a larger font than the rest of the
features on the magazine front cover. Mine is in purple which would show
the relation to the college colour scheme which is throughout the
magazine too. The VIBE magazine is displayed in a twin colour gradient
of black and red which is the colour scheme followed throughout the
magazines front cover features. Both mastheads are at the top of the
magazine, placed on the left. This is because it is one of the conventions
as audiences tend to read from the top down, left to right.
A series of normal coverlines are shown on both magazines. These
coverlines should support the topics portrayed through and without the
magazine. My magazine cover lines focus on school related topics and
subjects and will appear somewhere within the magazine. The font of my
coverlines are the same as the main coverline and use the same colour
scheme (purple) to compliment the presentation. The VIBE magazine
has coverlines outlined around the main image and consist of colours of
either black or red. This magazine also follows a set colour scheme which
gives a appealing presentation.
Both magazines have a selling line. The point of a selling line is to create
an atmosphere of what the magazine is aimed at mainly. My magazines
selling line is self explanatory as it tells the audience what to expect from
the magazine. It also uses the same font as the other features on my
cover except that it is green which is related to the college colour
scheme. The VIBE magazine selling line is a question to the audience
engaging them straight off the bat which would show audience
interaction. The font is simple and in black which is suitable for the
magazines presentation and fits the colour scheme.
Differences
The VIBE magazine has a pull quote which is related to the main image
and main coverline. A pull quote is an enlarged quote which would grab
the audiences attention as it is words out of a famous persons mouth. A
pull quote would usually have a page reference which would link to a
larger article explaining the quote. I did not add a pull quote because I
didnt feel as if it was necessary and wouldnt fit in the scheme of my
cover. If I was to add a pull quote it would be of a student or teacher
focusing on perspectives of lessons.
Rule of thirds. It consists of a grid of nine boxes with four hotspots. The
four hotspots are thee four main focuses that the audience concentrates
on. The VIBE magazine uses the four hotspots to focus on four points
of the main image. Because these are hotspots the main focus of the
magazines front cover is the main image of the rapper Eminem. My
magazine didnt use the rule of thirds point as good. This is because it
was my first example and I didn't really focus on that feature. My
magazine main focus should be the masthead, which is at the top, and
the main image which is on the right hand side of the cover.
Buzz words. The impact of buzz words is to promote other features of the
magazine which are included inside as either free or additional. Buzz
words would interact with the audience as it is offering additional
features when purchased. It is not necessary to include buzz words as it
is optional therefore the VIBE magazine doesnt have one.
One of the most fundamental parts of any magazine; a barcode. A
simple feature which could be indicated on either the front cover or back
cover. Mine is added in the bottom right hand corner and is just a simple
price representation. The VIBE magazine does not include the barcode
on the front however it must be included somewhere else on the
magazine, most likely the back cover.

Similarities
Branding is shown on both magazine front covers. Branding is a
representation of the producer of the magazine. My magazine used the
masthead from the front cover and placed it in the top left, in the same
font and purple colour following the colour scheme to show a
relationship between the pages. The VIBE magazine has a V letter
placed in the top right in a red colour and same font as the masthead
(showing a connection.) Both magazines follow code and conventions as
to indicating the branding at the top of the page as audiences read from
the top down.
Both magazines follow a set colour scheme which shows a relation to the front cover. My page has a purple background alongside
green and purple fonts which are also used on the front cover. My colour scheme is also a representation of the colleges colour
scheme. The VIBE magazine has a white background, which is also used on the front cover, and a use of red and black fonts which
follow the colour scheme on the front cover. The same use of font is also used on both magazine front covers and contents pages.
