Understanding BHQs and

BHIs
Doing Homework

Doing Homework
1. READ THE TOPIC (check semester
planner for topics each class).
Read the pages
Reflect on the content
Write points in Section 3 of your course
work file for today.

Doing Homework
2. GET THE BHI!
The BHI is also known as the Central
Idea or Main Idea
Reflect on the content and condense it
into a theme or 1-sentence concept.
Write it in Section 3 of the coursework
file for today.

Doing Homework
3. CREATE 2 BHQS!
BHQ is also known as an inquiry.
Ask yourself what is it about this BHI
that I want to know about?
Do this twice.. Make 2 connecting
inquiries or BHQs about the BHI.
Remember, YOU have to drive them, so
they must be YOUR BHQs! What
interests YOU! What are YOU curious
about? What do YOU want to know?
Write them in Section 3 of the
coursework file for today.

Doing Homework
4. FORM YOUR 2 HYPOTHESES
Write one for each BHQ.
This is a STATEMENT about WHY (HOW)
you think something was done or made
or.?
Write them in Section 3 of the
coursework file for today.

Doing Homework
5. CHASE YOUR THREADS
Chasing threads is also known as research.
The research is OVER YOUR HYPOTHESES
formed from YOUR BHQs!
DO NOT USE YOUR TEXTBOOK. ALL OTHER
SOURCES ARE OK..
Find varied sources. Are there any peeps
from the UK that could help? Interviews rock.
Know primary and secondary sources. Use
and identify BOTH.
Place all research AND SOURCES in Section 3
of the coursework file for today..

Doing Homework
6. LdL (Lernen durch Lehren)
If its YOUR TURN for LdL, prepare your power
point. Make about 4-5 slides.
Do NOT use large amounts of text! 3-4 bullet
points only, images, graphics, etc is good.
Cite your sources! (who said it, where did
you find it?)
DONT READ!!!!! KNOW your stuff and drive
it from your GUT they are YOUR BHQs
Lots of Gestures and animation..
Never stare at your screen.. Focus on your
team

Marking using Blooms

Pyramid
Marking is done using Blooms Cognitive Domain
This focuses on the depth of knowledge a student
has when presenting.
7th Grade students start using Level 1 marking in
Semester 1
7th Graders in the second semester and 8 th Grade
students use Level 2 marking.
Rubrics are available in Schoology (files and links)
All students should research Blooms Cognitive
Domain, and their History Synopsis on attainment
levels. Many docs are available for students in
Schoology.

Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS)

(Cr) Create (Synthesis) : with effective and appropriate
rationale and objectives/goals, create a new concept or
construct from existing knowledge.. use Team Brain Pool
(Mastermind Group) for new constructs!
(Ev) Evaluate : describe challenges/difficulties of a concept;
suggest possibilities to overcome the difficulties, improve
performance, etc.
(An) Analyze : compare and contrast the results of the
application: BHQ- How can it improve and what are its
weaknesses?
Lower Order Thinking Skills (LOTS)
(Ap) Apply : connect concept to a situation; illustrate how to
use and apply!
(Un) Understand : rephrase in your own words; grasp
meaning
(Re) Remember : simple data recall

LdLs
When doing LdL, GO DEEP! CLIMB
THE LADDER.
Dont READ, speak from your GUT.
Dont REPORT or rehash data, put
your opinions forward, your ideas,
your hypotheses
Argue.. Find hidden truths, analyze,
evaluate, create!
