SAFETY?

WHAT
SAFETY?

Relevant Facts

A case of medium sized chemical manufacturing

firm.

Kirk was assigned the job of Assistant Controller.

The issue was raised in the monthly financial

statement summary.

The assistant controller was having the positive

view for the session but the scenario changed
when the discussion started on the new
manufacturing plant.

Issues in the manufacturing

plant

The company was facing the issue of

managing the hazardous chemical
wastages that the company generates
while manufacturing various products.

Bob and John tried to develop a concept

of ultramodern waste management in
their new manufacturing plant (in order
to meet the industrial standards).

Issues in the manufacturing

plant

The estimated cost was increasing per unit

was increasing if they were practicing this
type of waste management practices.

They were facing the issues from the industrial

standard norms on a continuous basis.

They were avoiding it because the peers too

were lowering the costs by not practicing the
proper waste management norms.

Possible alternative for the

problem

They must not be a selfish business

mind i.e., they must not think that:
Following

the norms increases their costing

and decreases their margin.
If others (peers) are not following than why
should they follow.

Ethics of the alternative

Practical Constraints

What action should be

taken:

They must be thinking about the future

scope of the company that if non of the
player in industry is having this facility
they must an advantage of it.
Instead of comparing with peers and
instead of narrow decision making they
should think broadly for company as
whole not as an individual.
