Objectives of Report
To achieve the practical knowledge that will be helpful for future life.
General Banking
General Banking Department is considered as the direct customer service
center. It is the starting point of all the banking operation. It opens new
accounts, remits funds, honor cheque, takes deposits, issues bank draft and
pay order etc. general Banking is also known as retail banking.

Accounting Opening
Opening account with a bank is the way of creating a bankercustomer relationship. In other words, it is a contract between
banker and customer. With this contract, bankers enter into certain
obligations and responsibilities.
For opening savings bank account of individual either singly or jointly, passports
and identity cards may be accepted for introduction, but subsequently proper
introduction may be obtained.
Introduction of Current Account by members of the staff may be allowed but shall
be discouraged as far as possible.
Cancellation of Cheques
He/ She shall keep all Specimen Signature Card under his effective control during
transaction hours.
The cancellation officer shall retain only the signature cards admitted by the authorized
officer in serial order.
Before passing any cheque, the signature of the drawer must be verified. In case,
signature of the drawer differs, cheques shall not be passed unless the drawers
confirmation is obtained or a reference is made to Manager for his instruction.
The cancellation officer shall not pass any cheque unless cheque is posted in the
computer system.
Clearing Department
Jamuna Bank Ltd. receives cheques, demand drafts and pay orders of
their clients. Upon the receipt of the instrument the cheque clearing
section examines three types of payment modules. Whether the Paying
Bank within Dhaka City: The cheques clearing section of Jamuna Bank Ltd.
Mirpur-1 Branch sends Inter Branch Debit Advice (IBDA) to the head office
on the receiving day of the instruments. The main branch takes those
instruments to the clearing house on the following day.

The newly prescribed account opening form is very informative. It takes about half an
hour to properly fill in the form. When four or five customers come at the same time to
account opening purpose, it is very difficult for the relevant officer to provide satisfied
service to the client.
Lengthy process of issuing cheque books, Pay order, Bank draft because Job
responsibilities are not specified to each and every employee of this division.

Bank has an insufficient modern sophisticated technology to run the banking activities. There are
many staffs that have less computer knowledge and are not efficient enough to finish every task
immediately.
Inadequate skilled manpower in Jamuna bank Ltd, because there is lack of proper training
arrangement for employees in the general banking section. For example, most of the new recruited
employees learn their job tasks by observing their senior employees.
Now a days ATM service is much popular. JBL has a very less number of ATM booths in Dhaka city.
It is time consuming to find out an ATM for customers.
Recommendations
Account opening form should be easier to customers to fill the form properly or supportive
staffs should be appointed by the bank for doing this clerical job.
This is a very difficult task for a new person to arrange an introducer for opening a bank
account; it should be revised by the bank committee.
After accepting the account opening form JBL should accelerate the timing for issuing
cheque books, Pay order, and Bank drafts. Job responsibilities should more specifically
distribute among the employees for better customer service.
New software for banking services should be used by JBL as it is using the older version of
the bank management softwares. The bank should arrange a basic computer training
program for the employees who have less computer knowledge.

For the new recruitment of the bank should be careful about computer knowledge and
after having recruited the employees should be properly trained regarding general
banking and softwares used in the bank.
When a new service is about to launch by the bank then all employees should be properly
known about the service and properly trained on the service.
The bank should recruit more employees and supportive staffs for faster and proper
customer service.
The number of ATM booths should be increased for convenience of the customers.
Conclusion
As an organization the Jamuna Bank Limited has earned the reputation of top banking
operation in Bangladesh. The organization is much more structured compared to any
other bank operating local or foreign in Bangladesh.
With a bulk of qualified and experienced human resource, Jamuna Bank Limited can
exploit any opportunity in the banking sector.
Jamuna Bank Limited is bank of new generation. Though my report is on general banking,
I tried hard to cover all about the customer and their behavior with the bank.
JBL is the best bank, which provides a large fund to develop the society, and the bank
has to continue this process. Finally, Jamuna Bank Limited Your Partner for Growth
must be a true partner of the customers.
