INTRODUCTION

In present time, we live in such an intensive built environment with hope for better
quality of life. Architecture developed in todays time is more or less governed by
mechanical means to create a comfortable environment for us resulting in high level of
energy consumption.
As building sector accounts for more than one third of energy consumption therefore
reduction in use of energy by any means would be a step forward towards sustainable
architecture. Since passive solar building design techniques are the best way of
reducing energy consumption in a built environment therefore a study of these
techniques will be carried out for my dissertation report.

AIM AND OBJECTIVES

AIM
Study and analyze passive solar techniques in building design.
OBJECTIVES
Propose design strategies for new or already built structures by studying passive solar
design techniques on basis of following parameters:
Thermal(heat) control
Air movement and ventilation
Light and lighting
Noise and noise control

SCOPE AND LIMITATION

All the aspects of passive solar design would be studied for tropical climates while
implementation of the techniques will be diverted towards that for composite climates.

METHODOLOGY

Study various aspects of passive solar design.

Selecting best of the buildings based on above mentioned principle.
Analyzing these buildings upon parameters mentioned.
Drawing inferences.
Design strategies.
Conclusion
