Charles Robert Darwin (Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England, February 12,


1809 - Downe, Kent, England, April 19, 1882) was an English scientist
and naturalist.
Darwin is the author of the first modern theory of evolution of living
things using the concept of the development of all forms of life through
the process of natural selection.
This theory is named after him and the name of Darwinism.

Darwin's theory was first published in 1858 in the newspaper, at the
same time as one by Alfred Russel Wallace, a young naturalist who is
independent of Darwin came to the same conclusion.
Darwin's theory was fully published in 1859 under the title The Origin of
Species (The Origin of Species).

CRITICISM OF DARWIN'S "ORIGIN OF SPECIES"


Most publicized attacks on Darwin's theory did not come from scientists
but from religious opponents.
They accused the theory that natural processes denied the special
creation of man and put man on the same level with animals.
