AUTOMOBILE

INDUSTRY

ROLL NO : 16-7655

INTRODUCTION
The automotive industry in India is one of the largest in the world with an
annual production of 23.37 million vehicles in FY 2014-15, following a growth of
8.68 per cent over the last year. The automobile industry accounts for 7.1 per
cent of the country's gross domestic product (GDP). The Two Wheelers segment,
with 81 per cent market share, is the leader of the Indian Automobile market,
owing to a growing middle class and a young population. Moreover, the growing
interest of companies in exploring the rural markets further aided the growth of
the sector. The overall Passenger Vehicle (PV) segment has 13 per cent market
share.
India is also a prominent auto exporter and has strong export growth
expectations for the near future. In FY 2014-15, automobile exports grew by 15
per cent over the last year. In addition, several initiatives by the Government of
India and the major automobile players in the Indian market are expected to
make India a leader in the Two Wheeler (2W) and Four Wheeler (4W) market in
the world by 2020.

HISTORY OF AUTOMOBILES
The early history of the automobile can be divided into a number of eras, based on the prevalent means
of propulsion. Later periods were defined by trends in exterior styling, size, and utility preferences.
.In 1769 the first steam-powered automobile capable of human transportation was built by NicolasJoseph Cugnot.
.In 1807 Franois Isaac de Rivaz designed the first car powered by an internal combustion engine fueled
by hydrogen.

.In 1864 Siegfried Marcus built the first gasoline powered combustion engine, which
he placed on a pushcart, building four progressively sophisticated combustion-engine
cars over a 10-to-15-year span that influenced later cars. Marcus created the twocycle combustion engine. The car's second incarnation in 1880 introduced a fourcycle, gasoline-powered engine, an ingenious carboreter design, and magneto
ignition. He created an additional two models further refining his design with
steering, a clutch, and brakes. His second car is on display at the Technical Museum
in Vienna. During his lifetime, he was honoured as the originator of the motorcar. But
his place in history was all but erased by the Nazis during World War II. Because
Marcus was of Jewish descent, the Nazi propaganda office ordered his work to be
destroyed, his name expunged from future textbooks, and his public memorials
removed, giving credit instead to Karl Benz.
.In 1886, Karl Benz developed a petrol- or gasoline-powered automobile. This is also
considered to be the first "production" vehicle as Benz made several other identical
copies.

At the turn of the 20th century electrically powered automobiles appeared but only
occupied a niche market until the turn of the 21st century

MANUFACTURING PROCESS .

1. THE CHASSIS PRODUCTION UNIT

chassis (body) is the most important part of an automobile (vehicle).

Building the frame or body is the most difficult work of the manufacturing
process.
The chassis is made with aluminium .rather than steel or iron ,resulting in
making it light in weight .
There are around 2000 welds on the frame , highly skilled workers are
needed .

ELECTROLYTIC OR E-COATING
After making of chassis
It needs to be protected from corrosion .
So it is, moved to a different unit .
The frame is dipped into a chemical , it rotates the body in whole 360
degrees .so that the coat is applied equally on the body .
The coating consist :1. Zinc .
2. Manganese.
3. Nickel.
. Then the body is submerged into a electrically charged solution. It makes the
coat stick to the body .

SURFACE FINISHING &THE PRE-ASSEMBLY

Here worker build the major parts of the vehicle ,such as :1. Doors .
2. Instrumental panels .
3. Engine .
4. Dashbord .
. The workers gives the body a proper finish . A smooth profile is given to the body

FINAL ASSEMBLY
Final assembly is divided into seven parts , they are as follows :1. Installation of foam material block , to reduce noise and
vibration
2. Wiring all units ,all panels are supplied with power .
3. Dashboard is assembled .
4. Technicians place the engine in chassis .
5. Technicians assemble the windows and the windshield aswell .
6. Installation of seats are done .
7. Wheels are mounted on vehicle .

CONCLUSION
The automotive manufacturing plays an important role in deciding the design
, quality , performance and cost of the vehicle .
Thus it is important for the engineers and designers to understand the
current manufacturing infrastructure available in the industries .
This will be pinpoint in the production of vehicle .at the end ,Designers will
give the tolerance .
Automated processes will keep up to the tolerance .
It will have much more influence in the quality and performance
