METALWORKING AND
MACHINE TOOLS

6
2015 Liquidity Services, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

Metalworking machine
tools includes a wide variety of
machines having as common
denominator that they are
powered to manufacture products
or parts (usually metallic but not
only). Their distinctive
characteristic is that they work a
large variety of materials, metal in
particular, to produce a required
shape.
-CECIMO

Machine Tools
-Heavy or non-portable
power driven industrial device used for abrading,
cutting, drilling, forming, grinding, nibbling, or shaping
of a piece of metal or other material. Machine tools
(such as lathes) are machines that make machines.

Machine Tools Industry Size

In 2014, global
machine tool
consumption
constituted $75.3
billion with an
increase of 0.3%
$81.2 B while global machine
$75.3 B production constituted
$81.2 billion with a
decrease of 3.1%.
World machine
production declined
for three years in a
row.

The rate of
contraction in
production toneddown in 2014 as
machine tool builders
brought inventory

World Machine Tool Production per Region

Asia remained
dominant but machine
tools production growth
reduced to roughly
3.5%. A majority of this
slowdown came from
China, where
production remained
nearly flat because of
overcapacity.
North Americas
production of machine
tools increased to meet
the increasing demand
in 2014.
Due to the decreased
in consumption, South
Americas production
also declined.
Production in Europe
also increased in 2014.
