In such case the echo request to the destination host is
timed out, then following could be the reasons for next
level analysis.
1. Check for any typo error while typing IP address.
2. Check for IP address has been assigned at both end
of the
hosts.
3. Check for Subnet Mask has been assigned at both
the ends.
4. Check for ICMP echo request has been enabled.
5. Check for any hardware related issue right from NIC
Ethernet cable and Ethernet Switch functionality.

General Introduction to IP
IP: Internet Protocol is the method or protocol
by which data is sent from one host to
another host (elements) in the network.
IP Address: Each host (element ) on the
network has at least an IP address that
uniquely identifies it from other hosts on the
network.
IP Structure: An IP address has four parts
(quadrants) separated by dots
(xxxx.xxxx.xxxx.xxxx)

General Introduction to IP
Parts of an IP: Every IP can be a identified as
TWO parts, one is Network part and another is
Host Part.
Network Part: Can be used to identify on
which network a host is connected.
Host Part: Used to identify the host in the
network, and should be unique when resides
in the same network.

Components associated with IP: Net
Mask.

Net Mask: Defines the how many quadrants

of an Address describe Network Part and Host
Part, looks similar to the part of IP address like
xxxx.xxxx.xxxx.xxxx

Ethernet Switch
Ethernet Switch: In our m/c we are using unmanaged
Ethernet Switch. So in general, its not designed to be
configured, so you don't have to worry about installing or
setting it up correctly. That is any element supporting IP
can be connected to any port.
