What s idioms and


phrases?
An idiom is a common word or
phrase with a culturally
understood meaning that
differs from what is composite
words denotations would
suggest. For example, heart
of gold means a generous
heart.

1) An axe to grind a personal interest in
the
matter
2) Apple of ones eye- a great pet, a
loved one
3) To burn ones fingers- to get oneself
into
trouble
4) To bury the hatchet- to stop the
quarrels and
forget the past
