Blended
Learning

Learning Solution Evolution

Traditional tree (trunk and branch) training department, with learning

activities focussed around the Training Academy

Nokia Siemens Networks

Learning Solution Evolution

Traditional tree (trunk and branch) with added social learning (blogs, wikis,
YouTube & knowledge database) for learners to share their experiences

10

Nokia Siemens Networks

Learning Solution Evolution

Blended Learning makes the Social Learning more successful and

encourages its use amongst everyone. With the choice, learning starts to
revolve around the learner, who can drive it, rather than the department.
11

Nokia Siemens Networks

Learning Solution Evolution

To be really performer-centric, all the different learning options must be

linked together to give total choice, creating a knowledge sharing and
learning lifestyle
12

Nokia Siemens Networks

Learning Solution Evolution

The seamless integration of learning and sharing has to be easy and

convenient for the performer, to form a learning lifestyle: The Learning Cloud

World in 2010 Facts & Figures

Entry level fixed broadband connection costs ~ $190 per person per month
in developing countries, compared to ~ $28 pppm in developed countries.

Nokia Siemens Networks

Summary
Mobile devices are convenient and the only
realistic way of achieving the learning cloud

When you need urgent answers, the phone is often at hand

allowing privacy and comfort in stressful situations

Countries without a fixed-line telecoms infrastructure, will

rely on cheaper mobile broadband subscriptions.
Most people in developing countries will experience the
Internet through their phone

LTE with data speeds up to 160 Mbps
the first to demonstrate LTE in a multi-user
urban field trial with peak rates of 173 Mbps.
made the first LTE call on commercial software and hardware
which was followed with the first complete handover between
LTE and HSPA

Summary
Mobile Networks are radically changing and the quality of
the mobile broadband experience will increase dramatically

LTE peak data rates are levels of magnitude faster than

what we get today with mobile broadband

LTE is starting to be rolled out now, networks will go live

soon. So have to start planning how to capitalise on them

Summary
Mobile phones will be essential to achieving a knowledge
sharing and learning lifestyle and reaching developing
markets
Mobile Broadband is about to become significantly better
with the introduction of LTE with incredible increases in
speeds and the user experience. Must start planning now
There is no one definition of mobile learning, theres an
endless possibility of ways to use a phone to assist with
learning: So mobile learning will involve many innovation and
implementation cycles bear in mind security and different
devices and operating systems (its not all Apps)
