CLASSROOM POLICY

WHY HAVE A CLASSROOM POLICY?

I would like to be able to do my job well, so I
am able to meet your expectations.
My performance depends on my expectations
of your performance in class.

CADD-1055 WEEK 1 LECTURE

CLASSROOM POLICY
General
Classroom Disruptions
-- Examples; talking, use of mobile devices, arriving late
-- I may ask you to leave class or confiscate your device during class

Attendance
-- Mark deductions: absence without notification, arriving late in class
-- 10% of total assignment mark for that week

Tests
-- Submission deadline of test is STRICT
-- Late submission of test results to 10% mark deduction per minute

CLASSROOM POLICY
Assignments
All assignments are due 4 days after it has been assigned
-- If your class starts Tuesday 2PM, then your assignment is due Friday 2PM
-- Late submission will not be marked; exceptions for valid reasons only

Cartesian & Polar

Coordinates
In AutoCAD, lines, circles and etc... are
defined by coordinate points.
The two main coordinate systems used are
the
Cartesian coordinate system (x,y)
polar coordinate system (r,).

32

Cartesian Coordinate
System
The Cartesian coordinate has three
mutually perpendicular axes (x-axis, yaxis z-axis).

33

Cartesian Coordinate
System
The origin is located at (0,0,0).

Origin

34

Creating a Line:
Cartesian
Command: l, line, click on line tool icon
LINE Specify first point: 2,1

Creating a Line
Specify next point or [Undo]: 6,3
Specify next point or [Undo]: Press
Enter

Polar Coordinate
System
The 2-D polar coordinate system consists of two
mutually perpendicular axes (x-axis, y-axis).

Polar Coordinate
System
The origin is located at (0,0).

Origin

Polar Coordinate
System
The location of any point in space can be
identified by radial coordinate r, and
angular coordinate .

Polar Coordinate
System
The angular coordinate q is measured
counterclockwise starting at the positive
x-axis.

Creating a Line: Polar

Command: l or line or click on line tool icon
LINE Specify first point: 2.5<60

Creating a Line: Polar

Specify next point or [Undo]: 7<10
Specify next point or [Undo]: Enter

Relative Coordinates
If the start point of a line is
unknown, you can enter relative
coordinate points to create the end
point.
The symbol @ is placed before the
coordinate point if it is to be relative to
the last point entered.

Creating a Line: Relative

Modifying Tools (Commands)

There are many modifying tools. Similar to the drawing tools, a
modifying tools name should describe what they do. Or at
least they icon will describe more. And you can just let your
pointer above the icon, and let the help tool tip expand and
explain more.

You can also try to activate the tool, then press F1. It will
open help file with related topic. Many Windows users dont
realize this. They open then search the help file. And
sometimes cant find what they are looking for.
Same rule applies here: keep watching the command line!

50

Stretch
Stretch allows us to edit the
geometry by pushing and pulling
it, from a specific points, usually
endpoints.
Exercise 3

to move the
endpoint

Trim

Exercise 5
(FOL)
The Trim uses a
cutting object
(When using
trim we use one
object to cut
another)

53

Extend

Exercise 5
(FOL)
The Extend
uses a
boundary
edge object to
which we
extend

Exercise 6
(FOL)
Clean up line work
when we change our
drawing:
Example: assign a
larger/smaller radius
to the circle, the
trim.

55

Offset
Creates a copy parallel to the original line work with a scaling
factor (offset)

INTODUCTION TO AUTOCAD

56

Scale
This command
(tool) allows us
to change the
scale of our
object by
multiplying it
by a factor

Array This command (tool)
helps us copying object in
a rotational matter
