Speed readingis any of several techniques
used to improve one's ability to read quickly.

Types of reading
There are 3 types of reading
Mental reading (Subvocalization): sounding out
each word internally, as reading to yourself. This
is the slowest form of reading.
Auditory reading: hearing out the read words.
This is a faster process.
Visual reading: understanding the meaning of
the word, rather than sounding or hearing. This
is the fastest process.

Purposes
- Elicit students prior knowledge of
the topic of the text.
- Sets a purpose for reading.
- Helps students to monitor
comprehension
3. Students need to brainstorm words, terms or phrases they associated with a topic
in order to fill in the K column.
1.Ex: Tell me everything you know about topic
4. Ask an alternative question for generating ideas for the W
2.Ex: What do you want to learn about this topic
column.
5. Fill the L columns after reading. You should look the answers to the questions in
your W column.
