4. Main Idea
What is a paragraph?
- a group of sentences about one topic/idea
- this topic is called the main idea
Cats are great pets. They are easy to take care of because they do not
have to be walked. Cats are also very playful. Everyone should have a
cat.
- what is the main idea?
The main idea is the most important point about the topic and is usually the
first or second sentence in the paragraph. This sentence is called the topic
sentence.
Other sentences usually support the main idea.
