You were asked to, in groups,
analysis sections of the Nicene
Creed in detail.
This PowerPoint has been created
from your work as a study/revision
tool
Here are your answers

I believe in one God,

the Father Almighty

The Meaning
What does I believe in one God, the Father
Almighty mean?
This means that we only believe in one God.
This is called monotheism. The Father
Almighty means that God is powerful,
everlasting, and is above us; superior.
However he stills show us mercy and love
and is in all aspects of our life.

I believe in one God the Father Almighty

Activities from TKWL

1. What does the image represent?
The coal at the bottom represents God as he is the source of our flame which represents
Gods spirit or the Holy Spirit inside of us. The red background represents his love for us
and his powerfulness and strength.
2. Words to describe the mystery of God: All-knowing, inconceivable,
incomprehensible, omnipotence, omnipresence, incarnation, creation, mysterious,
superior, monotheistic, eternal
3. Questions you still have
Whys the picture called regeneration when there is a fire?

What exactly is the Mystery of god?

What starts the fire of Gods spirit in us?

Could it show the start of our Christian life?

Where would the fire spread to, could it enter into other peoples hearts?

How long will the fire of god last with us, is it everlasting?

Could the fire be the Holy Spirit entering us?

Further research
Monotheism, belief of one God, did not become a staple
concept until the rise of Judaism. Before then, the Jews were
surrounded by tribes which were polytheistic, belief in
multiple Gods.
The Abrahamic religions (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam) all
profess monotheism and is fundamental to these religions
God, although considered a living being, is not restricted to a
gender. God is considered a spirit, the Holy spirit, more
specifically. God is however considered as male most likely
because Jesus Christ is a male and that he was born under a
virgin, without a contemporary conception, and is an
incarnation of God.

Why is it included in the Nicene

Creed?

I believe in one God, the Father Almighty is

included in the Nicene Creed because because
the Nicene Creed is a set of creedal statements
that illustrate Catholic beliefs. Arguably, the
main belief of the Catholic Church is based on
the belief that God exists.
This is one of our main beliefs and this is why
it goes first in the Nicene Creed.

Why is it important for Catholics

today?
I believe in one God, the Father Almighty is
important for Catholics today because this
belief has been professed in Catholicism for
over a millennium.
This belief is stated in basically every Mass
that occurs.
Catholics base their lives on belief in God

I believe in one Lord

they will be his witness in Jerusalem to the ends of earth. He then was taken
up to heaven and will come back.

Further research

We had found out that the events of Jesus Christ

mostly took place in Bethany.
We also researched about the different Sons of
God to find out what it means to truly believe in the
one lord Jesus Christ. We found out that other Sons
of God include, Jesus Christ from the Qaran who is
the son of Allah, Lord Shiva and Lord Rama the sons
of Vishnu from Hinduism, Rahula from Buddhism,
and God the Son (Jesus Christ) from Mormonism.

The Meaning

What does I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ

mean?
This means that we believe in one God, also known as
monotheism, and that he is present within Jesus Christ.
The Nicene Creed was created to refute the idea that
Jesus was lesser to God. As in the Trinity, Jesus is
consubstantial with God and is therefore equal as they
are made from the same substance.
Therefore, if we believe in God we also believe in Jesus

Why is it included in the Nicene

Creed?
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ is included in
the Nicene Creed because
Jesus Christ is part of the Nicene Creed because
He is the reason Christianity came to existence.
Jesus is part of the Trinity and therefore Catholics
believe in him and follow his teachings.
This is included in the Nicene Creed because it is
one of the main beliefs of the Catholic Church
and its adherents

Why is it important for Catholics

today?
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ is
important for Catholics today because
It shows and tells the Catholics that there is
only one Lord Jesus and that He is yet to
return. It teaches the students and people of
today that there is only one Jesus Christ and
that adherents believe in his return. This is
called messianism.

Christ will come again

The meaning: what does it

Christ will come again mean?
The early Christians believed that Jesus would come
again very soon. In the second coming of Jesus, he
would judge the world and bring Gods Kingdom to only
those who were faithful to God.
A good demonstration of this phrase is in the Gospel of
Matthew (25:31-46). It says that Christ brought eternal
life to fellow human beings. The Catholic people still
believe that Jesus will come back again but people are
unsure when the Second Coming will occur. Christians
have hoped for this to happen so that the living and
dead souls will join with God in His Kingdom.

Why is it included in the Nicene

Creed?
Christ will come again is included in the
Nicene Creed because is it what Catholics
believe in. Also according to the scriptures in
the Bible, it is said that Jesus Christ will
resurrect and come again. The Nicene Creed
was created by the Council of Nicaea, it was
in the faith of those who created it that Jesus
would come again for the second time and
incorporated a crucial statement from their
religion in the creed.

Why is it important for Catholics

today?
Christ will come again is important for Catholics today
because it is part of our religion to believe that Jesus will
descend from heaven once again. Other religions like
Judaism believe that Jesus was not the Messiah sent by
God to free his people from sins. It is Catholics belief that
Jesus will come again and this sole belief distinguishes
Catholics and Christians from other religions.
We recite this statement as part of the Nicene Creed
during mass because we do believe that he would come
again at the end of the world to save those remain
faithful to God.

For our sake and for

our salvation

For our sake and for our

salvation

Activities from TKWL

1. What reasons do Christians have for being filled with
Hope? Hope is the gut feeling that Christians and many other
people have that gives them urge that something good it to happen
to them in the future. (Jesus coming back)
2. How can a Christian show that she or he hopes in a life
beyond death? Christians believe that if you do good in life you
will be judge well by God and go to heaven but if they do bad they
will be judge of bad deeds and burn in the fires of hell
3. If you have ever attended a Catholic funeral, recall the
ideas that came through the service? I have not Attended a
Catholic funeral before but I would imagine that there would be
great grief and prayer. I would also guess that people would
question God as to why he took the departed persons life. It would
be hard to accept.

Activities from TKWL

(continued)
4. Catholics often use the term Heaven to refer to
life after death. What does it mean to you? Catholics
use the term Heaven to refer to life after death and so do
I. I also believe that it is were God sits with Jesus at his
right hand.
5. Develop an explanation of the word Heaven for
someone who does not know what the word means.
Heaven is what Christians and Jews believe to be an after
life for the people who did good according to God. In Islam
it is more well know as paradise.

The Meaning
In many psalms and letters it is said that He
(Jesus) was the cost of our Salvation
Philippians 2:5-8 and because it is the
meaning of Christs death. That the
forgiveness and salvation of our sins was
what he came down for in the first place.
Salvation means the preservation or
deliverance from harm, ruin or loss.

Why is it included in the Nicene

Creed?
For our sake and for our salvation is
included in Nicene Creed because it was
decided by the fathers of the early Christian
Church that it was important to include
information of the life, death and
resurrection of Jesus and so that when
Christians read it they remembered who
Jesus was and what he did.

Why is it important for Catholics

today?
For our sake and for out salvation is important for
Catholics today because for our sake and for our
salvation is a part of the story of the life, death and
resurrection of Jesus which Catholics celebrate and
remember. It is an important part of their Doctrine.
Catholics believe that, as Jesus was crucified this became
a symbol of the death of our sins. As Jesus was both
human and divine he is a role model for all humans
By giving us salvation He has helped awaken the Holy
Spirit within us. The Nicene Creed tells us that this Spirit
remains in us today because of Jesus sacrifice

I believe in one holy,

catholic and apostolic
Church

I believe in one holy, catholic

and apostolic Church

Further research
Did your group do further research? What else did you find
out?
The words one, holy, catholic and apostolic can be described with
the term Four Marks of the Church. These words were described as
the Four Marks of The Church because it describes the aspects
and characteristics of the church. These terms can be traced back
to early Christianity , 56 years before the phrase we believe in
one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church was added to the Nicene
Creed but was not established until the First Councilof
Constantinople.
The word catholic is spelt with a lower case c which means
universal or for all. If the word is written with a capital C then it
refers to the Catholic Church

The Meaning

What does I believe in one holy, catholic and

apostolic Church mean?
This phrase means that the church is the body of
Christ and although there may be a vast amount of
Churches around the world, they all share the same
things including faith, beliefs and mission. This line
or phrase is extremely similar to our school motto
many minds one heart in the sense that we are
many parts of a whole.

Why is it included in the Nicene

Creed?
I believe in one holy, catholic and apostolic
Church is included in the Nicene Creed because
That line is in the Nicene Creed because it wants you
to say that you only believe in one, holy church and
that it also refers to the Holy Spirit.
It refers to the Church as connected to the Holy Spirit,
as being a universal entity and spreading the
teachings of the apostles.
It also means that if you say it, you need to mean it
and understand it.

Why is it important for Catholics

today?

I believe in one holy, catholic and apostolic

Church is important for Catholics today because

The holy, catholic and apostolic Church is

important to Catholics as people from any race
and culture can gather in the Gods house to
hear the word of God, pray, reflect and share
their beliefs. The Church is welcoming to all
and is a community of believers.

How do we know we believe in the Nicene Creed?

We, as Catholics, will know that we believe in

the Nicene Creed by learning and memorizing
it off by heart. Memorizing it off by heart, as
well as understanding its meaning, shows that
you believe in it and have no intention of losing
faith in it.
You can also know by listening to the Nicene
Creed, believing in its teachings and saying it
with conviction.

True God from True

God

The meaning of True God

from True God
In short, stating True God from True God means that we
are declaring that God is eternal, and nothing comes to
him but through him, and he alone is the truth.
It also means that Jesus is not a false God but rather
The actual God as the statement will later say One in
being with the Father.
As many other religions have their own God, it is
important for Catholics to be able to know and connect
to their true God. This is also important to remember
when faced with temptations or false idols.

Activities from TKWL

Why is it included in the Nicene

Creed?
True God from True God is included in the
Nicene Creed because it is has an important
message. This line allows Catholics to
restate their faith and belief in a single one
(monotheism) and true God (not a false
God).
This helps to reconnect to who God is and
show that they, as Catholics, are fully
committed and connected to their God.

Why is it important for Catholics

today?
In our opinion, the line from the Nicene Creed
True God from True God is not really powerful
and meaningful on its own.
However, when it is said amongst the other beliefs
of the Nicene Creed it gains deep strength. True
God from True God is included in the Nicene
Creed to reiterate the importance of belief in God
as He is all powerful, almighty and the core of the
Trinity. This important and holds a stronger
message.
