What is organic manure ?

Organic here means that the product is

minimally processed. The nutrients remain
bound up in their natural form, rather than
being extracted and refined.
This keeps the cost of the manure within
economic limits of individuals too. As the
nutrient ratios are difficult to ensure, they are
also called soil conditioners.

Organic manure vs. Chemical

fertilizer

Organic manure increase the water holding capacity of soil while

there is no such benefit in chemical ones.

There is no such case of over fertilization if one uses organic

manure, while chemical fertilizer need to be weighed and spread
correctly.

No issue of toxic build-up in organic manure is there.

Chemical fertilizers are far more strong due to their concentration

of extracted nutrients and yield instant results.

Composting Machine (OWC

60)
OWC stands for Organic Waste
Converter and the following
number represents the model
name. The specifications of the
device are given below ;
Input : Segregated Organic
Waste
Model : OWC 60
Capacity : 25 kg per batch
Batch time : 10 to 20 minutes
Power : 4 HP

Spoilt vegetables
Fruit skins and spoilt fruits
Cooked and uncooked meat
Bones, egg shells
Bread and bakery materials
All cooked food waste
Garden Waste
Temple Waste

Materials cant be used for

composting

Plastic bags and bottles

Glass, metal
Newspapers and magazines
Dog or Cat droppings
Nappies or sanitary waste
Pharmaceuticals and cosmetics

Input Charge Constituents

Flower waste by nearby stalls

Edible material waste by nearby party hall
Wood husk (grinded)
Bioculum
Sanitreat

Input Charge Constituents

Sanitreat is a light brown powder. It is a
non-hazardous mixture of mineral and herbal
components that control the putrefaction
process of organic waste material. It retards
the formation of toxic leachates and gases
which result in the rapid control of odor.

About 1.5 to 2 kg is sufficient to cover 1 metri

tonne of the waste.

It is available in 5 kg and 25 kg packs. The exp

date of the product is around 18 months from
the date of manufacture.

Input Charge Constituents

Bioculum is a mixture of micro-organism

cultures that accelerate the aerobic
composting of bio-degradable organic waste.
It also treats the waste and makes it free from
pathogens, foul smells . It is suitable for
treating waste generated by ;

Hostels & canteens

Restaurants
Slaughterhouses
Food processing units
Household and agricultural operations

Compost from flower waste

Flower Compost
Characteristics

Soft
Large input required for considerable output
Lesser density
Requires less watering
Can be compacted and packed
Best suited for individual purposes

Eatables organic waste

Eatables Compost
Characteristics

Hard in consistency
Requires more water
Higher density
Good for large scale projects

Time keeper and watering

system

Time keeper and watering

system
A particularly modern system of time keeping have been used in the
manure facility. This system have a program fed time keeper that
triggers a nozzle for supply of water. The water is required to keep
the heat output low from the compost, caused due to wood
grinded powder.

Watering system has a reservoir that can be seen in the previous

slide painted in blue. The supply system is fitted with a micron
filter that prohibits any suspended particle matter which can jam
the nozzle.

Water storage & filtering

system
Water container and black box is for
filtration of water so that, minute
particles do not jam the nozzle.

Water jet system

Nozzle system for reduction of

heat output from compost. Initial
decomposition has a considerable
heat output. Thus, water sprinkling system
is a necessity to conserve the bacteria
cultures responsible for decomposition.

Advantages of organic manure

system

Renewable source of energy

No major faults risk in equipments is present
No major running or maintenance cost
Manure can be sold in market
Totally natural process
Reduces use of synthetic fertiliser in fields
Less payback time

Limitations of organic manure

system

High initial investment

Semi-skilled worker is mandatory
Constant supply of input materials required

Cost analysis without land

OWC 60 cost : Rs. 2,80,000

Area of shed : 26 ft. X 20 ft.
Shed costing : Rs. 4,00,000 (approximate steel and cement rates
by DSR 2010)
Piping cost : Rs. 1800
Container (25 kg) : Rs. 400 (42 units required)
Total cost : Rs. 6,00,000 (including setup and initial running cost)
Selling price of manure : Rs. 15 / kg
Units needs to be sold to comply initial investment : 50000 units
Demand per week : 40-100 units (in bhilai, with 2kg packets)
Payback period : 5.2 years

Cost analysis with land

1600 sq. ft. land availability, reduces costing by Rs. 1,92,000

Constructed shed reduces cost by Rs. 88,000
New payback for manure facility : 2.22 years
