• Parenthood is a creative struggle to
accommodate a new-comer in a world
where everything needs to be shared in
the family
• Parents are the genetic couple who give
birth to an infant. In fact, this is the exact
Arabic meaning of parents or "al-waledyn."
However, it takes more than just giving
birth to be engaged in the process of
parenting.
• parenting in Islam is a divine responsibility.
• There is no room for complacency in
parental responsibility. There is also no
room for compromise with the basic
principles of Islam.
"O you who have believed, save
yourselves and your families from a
fire whose fuel is men and stones,
over which are [appointed] angels,
stern [and] severe, who do not
disobey Allah in what He orders
them and [who] do [precisely] what
they are commanded." (66:6)
•Islam considers children to be
vulnerable and dependent beings.
Therefore, Islamic law provides
diverse rules for the protection of
their body and property.
•The role of motherhood is highly
esteemed. Women as mothers are
at the center of the family .The
duties of motherhood are highly
respected and considered a major
responsibility and privilege of
womanhood.
•The father should also see to the
child's education (both secular

Islamic way.
•As an Islamic parent, it is
necessary to follow certain
criteria when rearing children.
•These include maintaining an
Islamic environment, especially
in the home, and adhering to
Islamic teachings regarding
dress, diet, and prayer that are
essential components of a
household.
• All religions and all societies have
given parents an honorable status.
• The position of parents, and the
mutual obligations and
responsibilities, have been
addressed in Islam in great detail.
The parent-child code of behavior in
Islam is unique, since rules were
laid down by divine command.
• "And We have enjoined on man (to be good) to
his parents. In travail upon travail did his mother
bear him, and in two years was his weaning.
Show gratitude to Me and to thy parents; to Me
is thy final goal." (Chapter31: verse14)
• Showing Love Towards Children
 The Prophet said, "He who does not
show mercy (towards his children), no
mercy would be shown to him" (Al-
Bukhari).
• The Right to a Respectable Life
 Prophet Muhammad said, "The best
penny a man spends is that on his
children, on his camel for the sake of
Allah, and on his friends for the sake of
Allah."
•Equality and Justice
Between children
Muslims who fear Allah in their
heart and are keen to earn His
satisfaction should treat their
children equally, not favoring
one over the others, in
spending, treatment, and giving
gifts to them.
• "Paradise lies under the feet of
the mother."
• "God's pleasure is in the
pleasure of the father, and
God's displeasure is in the
displeasure of the father."
• " [Someone asked, "will this
promise be good if one looks at
his parents one hundred times
a day?" The Holy Prophet ()
replied, "even if one does so a
hundred thousand times a day,
God gives the reward
accordingly."]
• The parent-child relationship is
complementary. In Islam, parents and
children are bound together by mutual
obligations and reciprocal commitments.
• Parents have the right to expect
obedience from their children if only in
partial return for what the parents have
done for them. But if parents demand
the wrong or ask for the improper,
disobedience becomes not only
justifiable, but also imperative.
• It is an absolute religious duty to provide for
the parents in case of need and help them to
make their lives as comfortable as possible.
• According to Prophet Muhammad (peace be
upon him), the parents of a certain person
are his Heaven or Hell. What this means is
that if a person obeys his parents, attends to
their needs and keeps them happy and
comfortable, he will attain Paradise. On the
other hand, if he is disrespectful and rude to
them, offends them by ignoring their needs
and feelings or causes them grief in any
manner, his place shall be in Hell.
• And your Lord has decreed that you not
worship except Him, and to parents, good
treatment. Whether one or both of them
reach old age [while] with you, say not to
them [so much as], "uff," and do not repel
them but speak to them a noble word.
• In the light of the Holy Quran
and holy Prophet's sayings,
one can understand that the
respect for parents occupies
a special place in the moral
and social teachings of Islam.
• Let us pray to God that He
guide us to be respectful,
kind, and obedient to our
parents, and that we continue
to show them humility so that
God may be pleased with us,
and may He Bless and reward
us, both in this world and in
the Hereafter; Ameen
