Adolescent development

Introduction
WHO identifies adolescence as the
period in human growth and develop
ment that occurs after childhood and
before adulthood
Age 10 21 years
Characterized by a tremendous pace
in growth with the onset of puberty

Female puberty
The first visible sign is Thelarche
Growth spurt begin at the onset of
thelarche
Followed by pubarche
Menarche usually occurs 2 2.5 yrs after
thelarche

Physical change
The arms and legs lengthen before the
trunk of the body -> Awkward
Boy increase in lean body mass whereas
girl have a higher proportion of fat
CVS,Lung increased in heart size, BP,
blood volume, Vital capacity
Androgenic stimulation -> acne, odor
