Services

One of the prime requirements of any building design.

The organizational part of any design, that allows it to work and perform its functions
properly, in architectural sense, a building.
It works as a network of facilities, and functional needs that allow the users to use the
buildings properly and as intended by the architect.

Housing Complex

Variety of Living Conditions that includes cultural, sociological, economic, religious and habitual ramifications
Different, as they may be, their individual needs boil down to some basic requirements, in terms of architectural living
quality fresh air, daylight, water.
Every housing complex needs to fulfill its basic requirements for proper living, that comes in terms of services for
ease of living, and in certain cases, makes living possible.

Requirements

Water Supply
Drainage

Fire-fighting

Overhead Water Tank

WATER SUPPLY
Considering any housing system, this is one of the most
important service that needs to be taken care of.

Pipes take the water

To the O/H Tank by
way of mechanical
motors

Water Supply in a Housing Complex

Drinking

Individual Uses such as washing, cleaning etc.

Maintenance Of Landscaping (if any)

Fire-Fighting
All of these requirements are fulfilled by bringing in water to
the complex, and then proper distribution through pipes,
conduits, water reservoirs etc.

Individual Water Connections

in Each housing unit

Usually, approximation of water supply in any household is

taken with the thumb rule unit of volume of water, i.e.,

165 L / Person / Day

FIRE-FIGHTING
Not just a nomial building code requirement,
proper fire fighting planning enables the users
of a housing complex to avoid fire damage,
and to escape the building in case of any fire
accidents.
Beyond having a fire escape staircase, fully
functional fire fighting tank, and dry + wet
risers, along with fire hoses and fire
extinguishers, having fire proof materials, that
withstand fire damage for a longer time must
also be used in conjunction with the design

DRAINAGE and WASTE-DISPOSAL

Drainage and Waste Disposal System in a housing complex,
plays a fundamentally important role in the maintenance of
hygiene and cleanliness of the built space as well as the tenets.
Ideal planning of this service, would enable a healthy
populace living in any housing complex.
Usually the waste collected in washrooms/bathrooms and any
other water-based affluent is called sewage and the waste
collected in solid form is called dry waste. Both are disposed in
their own distinct fashion.

Garbage Chute

Inspection Chamber

Every 10 m, an IC should be placed.

Solid waste is disposed in multiple ways

Garbage Chute Waste is dumped down a chute

which collects all the waste and then takes them away
for recycling/incineration

Manual Disposal People themselves remove the

waste by themselves to corporation vehicles/dustbins
etc.

BUILDING

Drainage from washrooms/bathrooms are collected into

INSPECTION CHAMBERS and through these system of ICs,
travel towards the municipal waste chamber.

ELECTRICITY
Electrification of a housing complex, is a
very gargantuan task, since it involves the
designer from the conceptual stage of the
design.
Optimum distribution of electrical panels,
switchboards, junction boxes, main switches,
Trip switches etc. are to be placed in every
floor and every room.
Housing Complexes also require generator
sets, transformers and panel rooms in the
complex.
