Anandpur

Lappartenenza all'ordine Khalsa,
kermesse. Questa volta ho voluto esserci anchio a seguire
limponente processione colorata durante la quale, i Nihangs,
(cavalieri militari) nel loro costume tradizionale, formano
Anandpur
Anandpur (literally: City of Bliss) is located in the foothills of the Shiwalik
mountains in the district of Ropar (Punjab India). As one of the most
important pilgrimage centers of the Sikh religion was called: "Anandpur
Sahib". It was here that the Baisakhi of 1699, Guru Gobind Singh gave
birth to the Khalsa and created the Panj Piare inaugurating the order of
Soldiers Saints who swear by their military commitment to the defense,
not only of the Sikhs, but of all the men in the respect for their religious
rights. As in the tradition of one of the most famous martyrs of India Guru
Tegh Bahadur who gave their lives to defend Hinduism in the name of
Kashmiri Pandit. Lappartenenza Khalsa order, consists in exhibiting the
"Panj Piare" ie the five symbols: Kes (hair never cut), Kangha (comb),
Kachcha (shorts), Kara (steel bracelet) and Kirpan (sword) so can be
easily recognized during a fight. The Sikhs are instructed to live
according to the highest ethical standards, and to be always ready to
fight tyranny and injustice After being home for the last two human Guru
of the Sikhs for more than 20 years, Anandpur Sahib, was also witness to
many momentous events of their history Today, the festival, which has
now lost much of its original meaning military, however, has preserved
the ancient spirit and many Sikhs from all over India but also from
abroad, gather at Anandpur Sahib to participate for this annual event.
This time I wanted to be there too to follow the huge colorful procession
during which the Nihangs, (knights military) in their traditional costume,
form the vanguard, showing off their skills in the use of weapons,
horsemanship, and other disciplines of war. As always, my motto is:
"knowledge is important, but it is better to see!
