2005-2010 are:

THE ADULT MEN


Number of Filipino male aged 25-29 years old is
16 million or 19 % of total population
38% of total population are males
Adult men (25-29) have poor health status and
withh the highest level of health risk behavior and
lowest use of health services
2000 statistics show that
Accidents and injuries (86.85%)
Chronic liver diseases (96.39%)
Digestive diseases (75.19%)

THE ADULT MEN


COPD (64.79%)
Cardiovascular diseases (64.67%)
Mortality from all causes: 3.9/100,000 for females
and 5.7/100,000 for males (2000 data)

THE STRATEGIC THRUSTS FOR


2005-2010 includes:
Improve the overall participation of men in health
care system. Men should be made to actively
participate in the development of health services
appropriate to their needs and in setting up the
organizational system that will provide health care
for them.
Develop male-focused information sytems and
strategic communication plans that will used to
harness local and national government and nongovernment resources towards effectively
addressing the health care needs of men, aside
from their participation in RH programs.

THE STRATEGIC THRUSTS FOR


2005-2010 includes:
Develop and implement and a health package for
the Filipino adults.
Improve the health-seeking behavior of the
Filipino adults through health education and
information campaigns.
Intensify the implementation of policies and laws
that protect and improve the quality of life of
adult Filipinos.

ESSENTIAL HEALTH CARE PACKAGE


FOR THE ADULT MALE AND FEMALE
Management of illness
Counseling on substance abuse, sexuality and
reproductive tract infections
Nutrition and diet counseling
Mental health
Family planning and responsible sexual behavior
Dental Care
Screening and management of lifestyle related
and other degenerative diseases

THE ADULT WOMEN

Cardiovascular Diseases (leading cause)- 85.67/100,000


Malignant Neoplasms- 54.62/100,000
TB and Pneumonia (the only CD)
Goiter is high among females.
Hypothyroidism, endocrine and other metabolic disorders
(55.62% of those who die from these are females)
Malignancies of the reproductive tract and breast are
common among females
Breast cancer death rate: 13.64/100,000
Uterine malignancies death rate: 4.09/100,000
Cervical cancer death rate: 3.88 per 100, 000

THE ADULT WOMEN


More Filipino females than males die of diabetes
mellitus (52%); thyroid problems (58%)
Deaths due to TB and Pneumonia (28.75% and
36.91%)
Lesser percentages of females who die due to
accidents and injuries

THE ADULT WOMEN


The essential components of health care package
for adult men and women is similar to health
services provided to women., except maybe for
gender-specific services related to reproductive
system. This needs to be evidence-based, taking
into consideration the complex health care system
network that can be linked with other healthsupportive sectors: education, mass media, labor
groups, etc. These services must be provided to
ensure optimum health and prevent mortality and
morbidity among adult men/women in the general
population.
