What is the

difference between
CSE and ICT

References: Internet
Fundamental Difference
 Computer Science and Engineering is a
engineering discipline which involve the
design, development, integration and
testing of computer systems at all levels.

 Information Technology is the use of

computers and similar devices (electronic
and communications) to process, manage
and distribute information by many
different means - Digital processing is just
one of many forms of distribution.
Focus on Individual Field
 Information and Communication
Technologies (ICT) is an umbrella term that
covers all advanced technologies in manipulating
and communicating information.

 As a discipline, CSE covers a range of topics from

theoretical studies of algorithms and the limits of
computation to the practical issues of implementing
computing systems in hardware and software.
Focus on Individual Field
 CSE concern of implementing systems on
computer hardware and software.

 IT refers to anything involving technology

and information. This is an extremely
broad field involving the manipulation of
electronic data in any context.
Focus on Individual Field
 Generally IT involves looking from the outside in.
“What’s the best way to make money?” “What
security issues might arise?” “What database
should our company use?”

 Computer science involves looking at the inside.

“How can I implement an algorithm to make this
calculation in the fastest way possible?” “What
design concepts can I use to make this secure?”
“How can I best configure this database to work as
required?”
Focus on Individual Field
 CSE asks: what first time system is used, as a
set of code and electronics, can be
manufactured and should be built? Would it be
beneficial, either in time or in the future?

 IT asks: what fresh system, choose from

catalogues of provide code and electronics,
should be bought and employed? And how
should it be employed, and people get literate
to use it?
Focus on Individual Field
 CSE is the study of computers. You typically
learn about hardware and operating
systems. Things like registers, multitasking
kernels, data buses, address buses. It's real
touchy stuff.

 Information Technology is the more about

the study of the use of computers to solve
human/business problems. You study some
programming, databases, applications, etc.
Focus on Individual Field
 InformationTechnology deals
with  analysis of Information Systems
on how we can communicate, on how
information will be available, on how to
secure system and set difference IT
strategy.

 While
CSE deals with Programming,
databases and networks of the
computer.
Finally
 Of
course there is a big overlap but
CSE handles the technical work of
computers whilst IT is concerned
more with information manipulation
and the business requirements in
REAL WORLD.
