Josephs Dreams
Jacob lived in the land of his father's sojournings, in
the land of Canaan. These are the generations of
Jacob.
Joseph, being seventeen years old, was pasturing
the flock with his brothers. He was a boy with the
sons of Bilhah and Zilpah, his father's wives. And
Joseph brought a bad report of them to their father.
Now Israel loved Joseph more than any other of his
sons, because he was the son of his old age. And
he made him a robe of many colors. But when his
brothers saw that their father loved him more than
all his brothers, they hated him and could not
speak peacefully to him.
1. Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our
fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to
us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through
whom also he created the world (Hebrews 1:1-2)
2. And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which
you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark
place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your
hearts, knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture
comes from someone's own interpretation. For no prophecy was
ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as
they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. (2 Peter 1:19-21)
3. Therefore we ought and must constantly maintain this point, that
God does not wish to deal with us otherwise than through the
spoken Word and the Sacraments. It is the devil himself
whatsoever is extolled as Spirit without the Word and
Sacraments. (Smalcald Articles, Part 3, Article 8, 10-11)
