Introduction
NTPC, the largest power Company in India, was setup
in 1975 to accelerate power development in the country.
NTPC has installed capacity of 29,394 MW.
It has 15 coal based power stations (23,395 MW)
7 gas based power stations (3,955 MW).
4 power stations in Joint Ventures (1,794 MW).
The company has power generating facilities in all
major regions of the country.
It plans to be a 75,000 MW company by 2017.

ANTA GAS POWER STATION

Anta Gas Based Combined Cycle Power Project is not only the

first Gas Power Plant of NTPC but is also the beginning of an

era of state of art Combined Cycle Power Plants in the country.
Rapid industrialization and growth in agriculture/
domestic consumption of power in the North India was putting
lot of strain on the power grid.
To overcome the gap between supply and demand, NTPC set
up its first Gas Power Station at Anta.
Presently NTPC, Anta is one of the seven Gas Stations of
NTPC.
ANTA is ISO 9001:2000, ISO14001:2004, OHSAS
18001:2007, SA 8000:2001 and FIVE-S certified .

Electricity generation process

This heat is then converted into mechanical energy in

the Gas Turbine.
Gas turbine through a common shaft rotates a
Generator, which produces electric power.
Flue gas from the turbine exhaust is used to
convert water into steam in the Waste Heat Recovery
Boiler (WHRB).
The steam generated from WHRBs is used to run a
steam turbo generator and produce electric power.
This power is supplied to customer through 220 KV
lines.

Role of Transformers in Power System

A transformer connected to unit, at a power station
is generally called GSU or generator step up
transformer.
At substations , it is normally used for primary
distribution purpose.
It is necessary to step up the generation voltage up
to the level of transmission voltage, which is
normally 132kV, 220 kV, 400 kV and 765 kV.

Cooling Water System

The project is designed for five month

closed cycle and 7 months open cycle
of water circulation.
Cooling tower operation and maintenance is the
key for improved energy efficiency.
Major cooling water systems are classified as
Circulating water
Fan and drive
Heat transfer surface (fills)
Drift eliminators
Water treatment
