EMOTIONS

TEMPERAMENT
Associated with your personality
Something you are born with or
acquire young and seldom
change

TEMPERAMENT
Some people have a sunny
disposition whilst others are
always nervous or irritable,
thus, it lasts for the duration
Example: In a contest, one
child is very excited to perform
his
musical
piece,
while
another child is crying and
dreading to play on the stage.

TEMPERAMENT
A lifetime platform on which
moods and emotions occur.
If your temperament is
negative, being happy may
seem better to you, but yet it
may be lower than the
everyday
median
of
a
naturally optimistic person.

TEMPERAMENT

Example: a certain
person is naturally
pessimistic he hates
life and everything.
One event made him
smile. But it was not a
level of happiness

TEMPERAMENT
Often
vague,
diffuse
emotions, which may be
contrasted with more
distinct mood and very
specific emotions.
Can be based on beliefs
which does hold hope.

MOODS
Shorter emotional states,
typically
lasting
hours,
although they can last for
days or longer.
Example: You may wake up
feeling a bit down and stay
that way for most of the
day.

MOODS

MOODS
We may also just fall into a
mood.
We can be sent into a mood by
an unexpected event, from the:
1. Happiness of seeing an old
friend.
2. Anger of discovering betrayal
by partner.

Happiness after
seeing each other

Angry girl after his boyfriends

betrayal

Immediate mood
changes

MOODS
Medical
conditions
such
as
depression are not really moods
and are typically caused by a
chemical imbalance in the brain.
Can be caused by shorter-term
chemical imbalances.
Example: Brought on by a poor
diet

EMOTIONS
Tend to last for much shorter
periods
Example: The delight at being
given a birthday present may
subside in minutes as it is
replaced by disappointment
about a useless gift.

Girl opening her present

Disappointed after seeing her

present

EMOTIONS
Thus, these tend
to replace one
another and it
can be difficult
to
be
both
happy and sad
(although
we
may
have
a
good-go about

EMOTIONS
Tend to be more extreme than
moods, and temperament, higher
highs and lower lows.
Example: we were overjoyed
when we heard our name as the
champion.
I was left downhearted when I
visited the funeral.

Happy cheerleaders
after they won the
contest

Sad people at a
funeral

EMOTIONS
We can become very angry quickly,
though it is difficult to stay very angry
and it may subside into and irritable
mood or be replaced by another
completely different emotions.
Example: I was furious when I heard you
got kicked out of school. I realized that I
was just annoyed that you didnt try your
best at school, and finally accepted what
had happened.

Furious father after hearing his sons kicking out of school.

EMOTIONS
Tend to be very specific, triggered
by noticeable events and are
immediate reactions to these
drive us to particular actions,
1. Running away from a snarling
dog
2. Going to chat up an attractive
person.
