INTRODUCTION
TEM Cell is a rectangular coaxial
transmission line resembling strip
line , with outer conductor joined
together.
The rectangular section is tapered at
both ends and matched to a 50 ohms
coaxial transmission line.
Using TEM cell is a common
laboratory approach for EMI/EMC
measurements.
APPLICATIONS
Simple Construction
Ease of calculation
Independent Field Intensity inside the cell
Relatively Strong Fields
These advantages may be well limited when an
Equipment Under Test ( EUT ) is immersed in the cell
The limitation is a function of EUT size and its
electrical properties.
It can be used at low frequencies.
Antenna factor can be precisely calculated when
compared to the anechoic chamber.
DISADVANTAGES OF TEM
CELL
When a test specimen is placed inside a
TEM cell, the electric field distribution will
be altered.
To minimize the deviations, the size of the
EUT is limited.
The field strength in which the EUT is
placed inside the TEM cell is not the same
as the field strength existing if the EUT
were to be a point source in the classical
electromagnetic theory sense.
DISADVANTAGES OF TEM
CELL
More power is required to produce
the given field strength in a large cell
when compared to a smaller cell
So it is not economical to use a very
large TEM cell.
Large objects cannot be used inside
a TEM cell.
