SITE PLAN

INTRODUCTION
Dilli haat is a project of delhi tourism and
new delhi municipal corporation.
It provides an ambience of a traditional
village market for more contemporary
needs
It provides a synthesis of craft , food ,
and cultural activities.
Dilli haat is not just a market place , it
has been visualised as a showpiece of
traditional indian culture A forum where
rural life and folk art are brought closer to
an urban client.
These shops change hands every 15
days and therefore provide oppurtunity to
the visitors with a different set of shops
periodically and therefore motivates them
to keep revisiting again and again.

LOCATION
It is situated on sri aurbindo marg and
right opposite the busy ina market
dilli haat is well connected highly
ambitious project in south delhi
about 3km from the main commercial
area of south delhi like sarojni nagar,
south extension etc
it is situated opposite to all india
institute of medical sciences across the
main road

SITE CONDITION
The over all area available was
approximately 100mx 300m
the site is itself posed unsual constraints
like the nallah running through the entire
length
the nallah was covered with r.c.c. Slab
but it was not allowed to construct any
structure over it as not been designed to
take such loads
designers have used the edges of slab
since there are retainig walls just below
and these are the only place where a
foundation could be easily made

CIRCULATION AND
PAVING
From the entrance plaza to the end of the
complex , the circulation is entirely
pedestrian
by the use of ramps and step, lots of
levels have been created to define
buildings more distincly
circulation in front of shops is through a
verandah covered arcade.
the spaces also get varied character
because the plaza changes character from
a large entrance plaza to an oblong open
space
service entrance has been provided at
various points on the periphery

Administration
block
The administration wing which includes
ticket counter, ofiices, and conference hall
is placed to the left of the entrance.
the structure are in brick with slate roof
supported on wooden purlons
the main administrative block is placed
at little setback from the main spin
the ticketing counter is added to the rear
side of the admin block and front of the
dilli haat
a reasonable gate is put up to reduce
the burden on shopkeepers for leasing

Crafts shops
These are placed in front so that visitors
browses them before he enters the realm
of food stalls
at many place , the shops are placed in
a row , while at many others , they occur
in form of clusters ,
from the central spine first comes the
open platform meant for temporary shops
these are provided with just constructing
pillars and platform , for these shops roof
is of wooden purlins with bamboo mat
special stores have been provided for
the temporary shops where craftsmen
store their goods at night trolleys for
transporting goods to the stores have
been provided.
shutters made of bamboo mats are used
for closing the shops.

Food plaza
Food plaza is provided at the back , due
to the requirement of hygiene and dust
proofing is furnished in kota stone flooring
and flat r.c.c. Roof
there are 52 food stalls in whole plaza
with each one specialising in the foods of
a particular state , there by providing food
from aal states
since lots of space was required for
having so many food stalls as small as 2024 sqm
food stall and open seating in front are
created in levels
all the food stalls are simple brick
structure with flat r.c.c. Roofs and parapet
walls are given a treatment of brick jaali

Open air theatre


A small performing arts theatre ends the
vistas
stage has a circular form and there is
adequate back stage space available but
the front space for visitors is very less
there is a central 10-0 wide walkway
towards stage from front entrance which
is identified by 4 richly carved wooden
columns
this area is seperated from surrounding
activities with bamboo sticks
these bamboo sticks on the outer edge
and the gravel on the seating area create
a complete village performance area

services
Water self sufficiency is ensured by two
large bore wells
there is a large back up generating
capacity for electric failures
gas pipes, flame proof cylinder locking
spaces , kitchen e xhausts , A hydro
pnematic system , generous sinks and pot
wash areas all thought out and built in
The public toilets are built around
courtyards to keep them adour free
drainage has been worked out on the
basis of area drains.
these area drains are connected to
storm water drainns which ends into the
municipal sewer lines that run along the
linear length of the site

Material ,
technology
Brick jali pattern :
temporary structure of bamboo and
fabric are made with design with
change in festival.
Roofs of the shops have precast rc
beams over which sand stones slabs
are placed and then earthen pots
with mud phuska is placed to
insulate against heat over which
bricks tiles are laid.
Non structural bamboo shops
supported on bamboo sticks.
Traditional design of ticket windows
in wood and glass.
Cafe have flat r.c.c roof and kota
stone flooring.the front of each cafe

Signage:
Proper signage has been used for
public facilities.
A plan has been put up after the
enetrance for public convenience
also advertising for the delhi
tourism.

Provision for
Stone carved sign board for long
handicapped:
life.

Ramps for physically challenged to


move all over the site:ticketing
area,shops,food court etc.
Ramps with grab bars leading tp
raised cluster shops.
Ramps = 6ft.

Landscaping and
vegetation:
A plaza paved with stone and
brickwork skillfully interspersed with
grass,flowering shrubs and towering
eucalyptus trees plus a play comer
for children have conjured up an
oasis in which visitors can browse in
their leisure time.
Plants avaible at dilli haat are:
Ornamental trees like,pagoda
tree,palm tree and shrubs have been
used.
Existing eucalyptus has been
maintained as such.
The landscape of the area
incorporates colorful flowering
shrubs and trees thus the entire
complex is in harmony with the

The verandah of shops have

An elaborate plants cape plan built
around the indian trees such as the
mogra or raat ki raani.
The store block enclosing existing
neem trees and giving the ambience
of a moden rural haryana house.
Eucalyptus trees are used at the
border and are placed in rows and in
clusters also doobs grass is used in
lawns.

tree for food plaza.

More than 70 cars parking for


visitors and staff and more than 130
two wheelers parking for exhibitors,
staff and visitors.

inferences:
Positive points:
The complex gives a break through
from the crowding of the vechicles by
restricting the entry of the vechiles.
The placement of the shops has
been done to avoid over
crowdedness in the area.
The overall built space of the
complex is 12% of ground coverage
area.
The shops are setup on
platfor,ms,which act as a link in the
bazaars design.
The courtyard between the shops
are paved in stone and interspaced
with grass to retain a visiual
softness.

inferences:
negative points:
Sufficient space for display but
storage for craftsmen is provided at
the end which is in convenient.
Combined storage for display but
storage for craftsmen has not been
provide the creates a lot of
inconvenience.
No accommodation has been
provided for craftmen.
