Introduction
Change is inevitable in the history of any
organisation. Organisations that do not change or
keep pace with the changing environment suffer
from entropy & soon become defunct.
Organisations have to modify & change to adapt
to the changing internal & external environment.
Thus no organsation can stand still and tread
water for very long.
What is Change
Change is an alteration in the existing field of forces
which tends to affect the equilibrium
Changes in rules & procedures, bring in new
technology, alterations in the organizational
structure, changes in leadership etc., do affect the
internal equilibrium
Competition, modifications in govt. rules economic
fluctuations etc., affect the organization's
equilibrium with the external environment
Roles
He develops a need for change on the part of his
clients. The client system is made to realize the
importance & benefits of the intended change.
He establishes a change relationship with them. The
client feels that the change can be effectively
brought about with the help and support of the
change agent.
The change agent is able to identify the problem
faced by the client after he diagnoses their
problems.

identified by Griener(1965) are:
The degree approach: The Boss decides.
The replacement approach: It is removing the
stumbling block.
The Structural Approach

Success Of Change
To be successful the change agent should be able to
have:
Confidence in the Intervention Process.
Trust his own skills.
Deal with situation of conflict in a proactive manner.
Reduce Discrepancy.
Decrease his need & dependence
Cognisant of his impact on the client system
Generate trust in the client system.
