The trends shaping HRM

By putting applicants through a battery of tests and then tracking their job
performance, Evolv has developed a model for the ideal call-center worker. The
data say that
If person lives near the job,
And if, has reliable transportation,
and uses one or more social networks, but not more than four.
tends not to be overly inquisitive or empathetic, but is creative.

He/she is the best fit

The trends shaping HRM (contd)

The new hiring tools are part of a broader effort to gather and analyze employee data.
Globally, spending on talent-management software rose to $3.8 billion in 2011, up 15%
from 2010, according to research firm Gartner.

Big tech companies are jockeying to serve the growing market. Last month, IBM agreed
to pay $1.3 billion for Kanexa Corp.,which uses data analysis to help companies recruit
and retain workers.
Oracle acquired job-applicant tracking system company Taleo for $1.9 billion.

SAP bought SuccessFactors, which specializes in performance tracking, recruiting

and compensation, for $3.4 billion in December.

Workforce and demographic trends

Despite projected growth in the global population from 6.9 billion in 2010 to 7.6 billion in
2020, the working-age population is expected to decline in many countries. WHY?
Japan already has more people exiting workforce than workers prepared to enter it.
In Europe, in 2010 first time more workers retired than joined the workforce.
By end of decade, Russia, Canada, South Korea and China will also face same situation
One-third of Indias population is now under the age of 15.
Brazil, Mexico and Indonesia may benefit from a demographic dividend,
There is growing mismatch between the skills employers need & talent available
