Community Retrofit
Improving the energy efficiency of homes and community
buildings
By installing Insulation and other measures
- A Community project saving money and energy
- a local coordinating group (Energy Team)
- A county umbrella group (Energy Communities Tipperary, with
assistance from North Tipp LEADER & Tipp Energy Agency
- funding from Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI)

Why Now?
A DIY approach to FIGHT RECESSION
1 Million annually leaves average community (400 houses)
25% Energy Reduction = 250,000 SAVING - local money creation
Short Payback time (3 to 8 years) and savings after
Jobs - scheme creates employment in the local community
Why Now?
Costs reduced due to working as a group scheme
grant available under SEAI Better Energy Communities Scheme
SELL THE ENERGY SAVED potential to generate income
through per unit of energy saved (Carbon credits (ESB).
Foundation for longer-term community energy projects

What's Involved for Householder?


Money vs. Payback
Applies to Local Energy Team to join scheme & Receive initial
BER assessment/Energy Advice
Waiting to see if Energy Communities Tipperary secures SEAI
funding
Minimum of 3 measures per house funding based on Kwh
saving - Quotation/pricing from Contractor/Energy Team
Formally signs Agreement with Energy Team to carry out work
Can Pay homes pay Energy Team upfront no payment from
Fuel Allowance homes
On completion of work, receives back amount of the Grant
(30%)
Quality Assurance ECT/Energy Team acts on behalf of
homeowner & Secures best price from Contractor.
