Option for the
Poor

1. The Gospel calls Christians to put the needs

of the poor first. A common moral test of a
society is how it treats its most vulnerable
people.
2. Precisely because we wish to be at the service of
all of society, our primary concern will always
be those who live on its margin, excluded
from the essential services. Wherever there is
structural injustice, Christians are called to
oppose it. Those with the greatest need require
the greatest response.
3. God is Father of all, without exception, and we
firmly believe in the equal dignity of all . It is
this belief which commits us in faith to promote
respect for the inalienable rights of all and their

Sin is Like Leprosy

fire is the second death. 15If anyone's name
was not found written in the book of life, he

The Sacraments of Healing

There are two
sacraments of
healing:
A. Reconciliation or
Penance also

Confession.
B. Anointing of the

Essentials of the Sacrament

Contrition (sorrow)
Resolution = a firm desire
not to offend God through
sinful behavior.
Confession = the
enumeration of our sins.
Satisfaction = Penance,
making amends.
A person that goes to
confession to threatens the
life of another is not making
a confession. He or she is
making a threat.
The priest is not bound in
this case to keep the seal of
confession.

Contrition
Real interior
sorrow and
repentance for
ones sins.
Two types:
A. Perfect
Contrition
B. Imperfect
Contrition

Perfect Contrition
Sorrow out of true
love for God.

Imperfect Contrition
Sorrow out of Fear
for eternal
punishment.

Confession
Confession is the
disclosure of our
sins to the minister
Confession is the
admission of guilt

Then I acknowledged my
sin to you and did not cover
up my iniquity. I said, "I will
confess my transgressions
to the LORD " and you
forgave the guilt of my sin.
Psalm 32:5

Examination of Conscience
A close look at our
sins.
An inventory of our
lives.
An honest inspection
of the way we live.
An essential
component in the
preparation for the
sacrament of
reconciliation.

Satisfaction
The repair of the
damage caused by
our sins.
It involves
penance, making
amends.
Amends= making
up for what we do
wrong.

Absolution

A blessing of forgiveness.
The priest acting in the person of
Christ and through his power
absolves the penitent from his or
her sin.
Again Jesus said,
"Peace be with you! As the Father has

sent me, I am sending you." And with that

he breathed on them and said, "Receive
the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone his
sins, they are forgiven; if you do not
forgive them, they are not forgiven."
John 20: 21-23

Only bishops and priests can give

absolution and hear confessions.
The minister of confession is
bound by the seal of confession,
under penalty of excommunication.
He cannot reveal any sins
confessed.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation

Tips:
Receive this sacrament as often as possible.
Make an examination of conscience before going to
confession.
Make an honest confession (do not exaggerate your sins, do
not talk about others in your confession, do not mention
any names. Do not avoid confessing certain sins out of
shame.)
Trust in Gods mercy.
Fulfill your penance with a contrite, joyful heart.
Give thanks to Almighty God for his unending mercy and
love.
Pray for the unrepentant hearts that are harden by sin.
Ask the Good Lord to give you his grace, to live a life
worthy of the Gospel.
