CORRELATION OF SCIENCE

WITH OTHER SCHOOL

SUBJECTS

EDUCATION IS A CO-ORDINATED PROCESS AND

THE MAJOR AIM OF EDUCATION IS THE
UNIFICATION OF KNOWLEDGE EXISTING IN
THE DIFFERENT BRANCHES OF
LEARNING.TEACHING OF VARIOUS SUBJECTS IS
HENCE CORRELATED.TODAY, CORRELATING OF
TEACHING OF DIFFERENT SUBJECTS IS
CONSIDERED HIGHLY ESSENTIAL.

WHAT IS CORRELATION?

The term correlation in its simplest form

means connect or to be connected.
Correlation in teaching indicates a
technique which shows the reciprocal
relationship between various subjects of
the
curriculum
for
making
the
knowledge concrete and permanent.
It is the conscious effort made by
teachers teaching various subjects to
show similarities or dependence of one
subject on another.

USES OF CORRELATION

All round development.

Retention of earlier knowledge.
Useful knowledge.
It strengthens the skills.
It makes the learning concrete
It makes the learning permanant
It makes a lesson easy and clear.
Acquisition of knowledge in shorter
time
It helps to lighten the burden of
curriculum.

CORRELATION OF SCIENCE WITH

OTHER SCHOOL SUBJECTS
To bring about the unification of
knowledge that exists in the various
branches of learning , conscious cooperation between the teachers of various
subjects is very essential. Science is such a
subject which can be easily correlated
with any other subject. This will arouse
interest in pupils who associates the
knowledge he is gaining with the
knowledge he has already gained in the
period of other subjects.

SCIENCE AND LANGUAGE

Science is a practical subject ,but it
is very important for its leaners to be
able to express their views and ideas in
clear and attractive form. For this
purpose it is necessary that the should
have thorough knowledge of language
which they use.

SCIENCE AND MATHEMATICS

A large number of scientific principles and
rules are represented in the form of
mathematical expression, for which it is very
necessary for the student or person intending
to get advanced study of science subject to
have sound mathematical basis. Without
mathematics ,it is not possible for any teacher
to conduct science teaching in effective
manner.

SCIENCE AND HISTORY

While mentioning about the various scientific
discoveries taken place in the earlier periods,
teacher can relate with the major events of the
world history. Students should be told about that
what was the situation of science at the time of
reigns of various famous kings or rulers. Teacher
should narrate to the incidences which inspired
various scientists to found out the medical remedies
of various diseases.

SCIENCE AND GEOGRAPHY

There are various topics which are of
common
interest
for
geographers
and
scientists. Thus, it can be said that both of
these subjects are complementary to each
other. In science, various concepts relating to
the atmosphere and earth in which living and
non-living beings exist are made. For this
reason, temperature, wind directions and
measurement of rainfall are conducted in the
subject of science by making use of various
apparatus.

SCIENCE AND SOCIAL STUDIES

If one explores the history of development of
human society, he will find various incidences in
which human got victory over forces of nature, by
which he got control over the land, sky and seas. As
said that an important impact of science teaching is
that outlook and perspective of students or people
become scientific in nature, as a result of which,
various kinds of changes take place in their way of
living.

SCIENCE AND FINE ARTS

The knowledge of different notes, typical
vibrating system in strings and air columns,
musical scales etc.. Is essential for the learning
of music. Drawing and painting are also
related with science.

SCIENCE AND CRAFTS

Crafts like wood work, metal work,
cardboard modelling clay work etc.. Can be
successfully made use of in the improvisation
and construction of science apparatus. The
students can prepare models of scientific
interest.

CONCLUSION
Science is quite a complex and vast kind of
subject, because of which the task of correlating it
with other subjects of curriculum seems to be quite
an easy task.
