• Bananas should be firm, but not too hard,
bright in appearance, and free from
bruises or other injuries. Their stems and
tips should be intact. The size of the
banana does not affect its quality.
• The fruit is carefully handled, transported
quickly to the seaboard, cooled, and
shipped under sophisticated refrigeration.
This sophisticated technology allows
storage and transport for 3–4 weeks at 13
degrees Celsius. On arrival at the
destination, the bananas are held at about
17 degrees Celsius and treated with a low
concentration of ethylene

• Bananas are healthy (even healthier than
apple) thus we should eat it more often.
• Bananas are not exempted from diseases
and pests.
• A banana plant is not a tree!!!
• Banana is a useful commodity so we
should not take it for granted.
• The Philippines is called “Banana
Republic” for a reason!!!
• Bananas originated from Malaysia.
• Bananas are fragile commodity and we
should take care of it especially after
harvesting.
• Fruits also have stress. We should do
strict measures to protect the commodity.
• Japan and US are the major trade
partners of the Philippines
