COMBATING COMPUTER
CRIME

Cyberethics is the
philosophic study of
ethics pertaining to
computers,
encompassing user
behavior and what
computers are
programmed to do,
and how this affects
individuals and society.

CYBER ETHICS

CYBER ETHICS REFERS TO THE CODE OF

RESPONSIBLE BEHAVIOR ON THE INTERNET.

Responsible behavior on the Internet in many ways

aligns with acceptable behavior in everyday life, but
the consequences can be significantly different.

Cyberethics is distinct from cyberlaw. Laws are formal

written directives that apply to everyone, interpreted
by the judicial system, and enforced by the police.

Ethics is a broad philosophical concept that goes

beyond simple right and wrong, and looks towards
"the good life"

TEN COMMANDMENTS OF
COMPUTER ETHICS

ethics institute; a non profit organization whose mission is
to advance technology by ethical means, lists these rules
as a guide to computer ethics:

II.

Thou shall not interfere with other people's computer work.

III.

Thou shall not snoop around in other people's computer

files.

IV.

you have not paid.

Thou shall not use other people's

computer resources without

Thou

people's intellectual output.

Thou

shall think about the social

consequences of the program you are

writing or the system you are
designing.
Thou

shall always use a computer in

ways that ensure consideration and

respect for your fellow humans.
