MCC Deployment
April 10th 2013
Terminology 1
FC - Fiber Channel is a high-speed, low latency network technology primarily
used for storage networking.
FC Fabric - a network topology where FC nodes connect with each other via one
or more FC switches.
FCVI - Fiber Channel Virtual Adapter, FCVI adapter uses RDMA operation to copy
the local NVRAM section to remote NVRAM section.

Redundant Fabrics
FC Zoning
Think of a FC zone as a VLAN.
Nothing more than a traffic isolation
zone.
MCC requires Hard Zoning (port
zoning.)
Each Brocade needs to have a
different Domain ID.
Keep it simple!
FC Zones
Each Fabric will have two zones:
Effective configuration:
cfg: mcc_3240_4
zone: mcc_3240_4_fcvi
1,6 <- node A1 fcvi port 0
1,7 <- node A2 fcvi port 0
2,6 <- node B1 fcvi port 0
2,7 <- node B2 fcvi port 0
zone: mcc_3240_4_storage
1,0 <-- Fibre bridge A1
1,1 <-- node A1 port 0c
1,2 <-- node A2 port 0c
2,0 <-- Fibre bridge B1
2,1 <-- node B1 port 0c
2,2 <-- node B2 port 0c

assign {<disk_name> | all | [-T <storage type> | -shelf <shelf name>] [-n
<count>] | auto} [-p <pool>] [-o <ownername>] [-s <sysid>] [-c block|zoned] [-f] - assign a disk
to a filer or all unowned disks by specifying "all" or <count> number of unowned disk
dump_globals - disk driver global variables
encrypt { lock | rekey | destroy | sanitize | show | unlock } - perform tasks specific to self-encrypting disks
fail [-i] [-f] <disk_name> - fail a file system disk
maint { start | abort | status | list} - run maintenance tests on one or more disks
remove [-w] <disk_name>
- remove a spare disk
replace {start [-f] [-m] <disk_name> <spare_disk_name>} | {stop <disk_name>} - replace a file system disk with a
spare disk or stop replacing
sanitize { start | abort | status | release } - sanitize one or more disks
scrub { start | stop }
- start or stop disk scrubbing
show [-o <ownername> | -s <sysid> | -n | -v | -a] - lists disks and owners
simpull <disk_name1> [<disk_name2> [<disk_name3> ... ]] - simulate one or more disk pulls
simpush [<sim_disk_path_name1> [<sim_disk_path_name2> [<sim_disk_path_name3> ...]] | -l] - simulate one or
more disk pushes or list available disks to push
zero spares
- Zero all spare disks
Enabling MCC 1
Mirror the root Aggregate.
Enabling MCC 2
Create Vservers (3) on ROOT AGGREGATE on both cluster
pairs (4 pack)
mcc-3240-4-a1-a2::*> vserver create -vserver CRS_Vserver
-rootvolume CRS_Vserver_vol -aggr <root aggr name> -nsswitch nis -rootvolume-security-style unix -language en_US
mcc-3240-4-a1-a2::*> vserver create -vserver MCC_Vserver
-rootvolume MCC_Vserver_vol -aggr <root aggr name> -nsswitch nis -rootvolume-security-style unix -language en_US
mcc-3240-4-a1-a2::*> vserver create -vserver vs0
-rootvolume vs0_vol -aggr <root aggr name> -ns-switch nis
-rootvolume-security-style unix -language en_US
Enabling MCC 3
When Metro Cluster is successfully enabled at both Sites, run
the following command to check Metro Cluster health.
mcc-3240-4-a1-a2::metrocluster*> show
