N Describe the
Different Types of
Cloud Services

LESSON OVERVIEW
In this lesson, you will review the following:
Differentiate between types of cloud services and their
characteristics, including IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS
Integrate the cloud with on-premises services in hybrid
scenarios

GUIDING QUESTIONS
Answer the following questions:
What choices does a consumer have in selecting and
accessing
cloud services?
Why would a user opt to use a hybrid model of cloud
services?

CLOUD SERVICE MODELS

Cloud options are categorized by the following service
models:
SaaS delivers end-user software via cloud computing. Example:
Office 365
PaaS delivers application execution services, such as application
runtime, storage, and integration. Example: Microsoft Azure
Websites
IaaS delivers access to fundamental resources, such as physical
machines, virtual machines, and virtual storage. Example: Microsoft
Azure Virtual Machines

HYBRID CLOUD ENVIRONMENTS

It is often possible to provide IT by utilizing a mix of public
and private cloud services
A few examples:
A company might use Office 365 for most of its IT services, but run a
specialized application it needs on a local server
An organization that needs to store highly sensitive information may
choose to host that data internally for compliance reasons, but may
still leverage public cloud resources for other storage needs
A specific team may need the increased performance of a private
cloud, while the rest of the company can take advantage of savings
from public cloud usage

HYBRID CLOUD ENVIRONMENTS

(CONT.)

You can use a hybrid configuration as part of a migration to

fully cloud-based services
You can also use a hybrid configuration to temporarily
increase resources during times of need
Finally, an organization may wish to switch to the cloud but
has invested in local datacenters; a hybrid cloud allows them
to utilize that equipment while still realizing benefits of cloud
computing
