Introduction
Lipidsareanexceptionamongmacromolecules
becausetheydonothavepolymers.
Theunifyingfeatureoflipidsisthattheyallhave
littleornoaffinityforwater.
Thisisbecausetheirstructuresaredominatedby
nonpolarcovalentbonds.

Lipidsarehighlydiverseinformandfunction.

glycerolandaphosphategroupatthethirdposition.
Thephosphategroupcarriesanegativecharge.
Additionalsmallergroupsmaybeattachedtothephosphate
group.

Thefattyacidtailsarehydrophobic,butthephosphate
groupanditsattachmentsformahydrophilichead.
