The Home Cell is the most compelling solution to address the fixed mobile
convergence market and win the battle for the home traffic.

The Home Cell provides high quality 3G service at home. It is designed to be

plug-and-play and connect to a standard 3G core with minimum impact on the

current macro network.
The plug form factor enables shelf space saving and it only needs to be
connected to an Ethernet backhaul.
With a fully 3GPP compliant implementation, the Home Cell allows the
consumer to use the wide range of available 3G devices and applications at
home with higher data rates and, depending on the operator strategy, at lower
call costs.

PRODUCT OVERVIEW

Alcatel-Lucent 9361 Home Cell V3 is a residential small cell unit. It has

sophisticated capabilities developed by Bell Labs to ensure plug and play

installation.

The Home Cell has several unique capabilities:

It supports up to 8/16/32 HSPA users (concurruent).
It can be wall mounted or standing on desk on a detachable stand.
It has a 20 mW/ 100/200mw/250 mW maximum output transmit power.
It uses an Ethernet connection for backhaul and offer a 2nd Ethernet port for
connection to any external device.

It is capable to support a 21 Mbit/s HSDPA radio bearer and 5.7 Mbit/s HSUPA
radio bearer (software dependent).

The connectors are:

1 Ethernet port for backhauling connection: 100Base-T electrical
RJ45 connector, this traffic will obtain
highest priority.

processed with low priority compared to
Home Cell traffic.

Small Cell Functions

In order to understand the traffic scenario, it is important to understand what the

Femto solution provides:
Femto replaces a large part of the UTRAN network in 3G mobile networks.
It provides Node B and RNC functionality.

The Femto CPE provides the 3G air interface to mobile users, and then
connect to the central site cluster over the internet or available DSL/IP
network.

The Cluster concentrates all traffic from tens of thousands of Femtos and
presents a single Virtual RNC interface to the Core PS and CS networks.
