Basic Drafting
Materials
Pencil
Drawing pencils are
used for marking
and sketching. The
lead of pencil is
made of graphite,
clay, and wax. The
clay makes the lead
hard.
Technical Pen
A technical pen is a
specialized
instrument used by an
engineer, architect, or
drafter to make lines
of constant width for
architectural,
engineering, or
technical drawings.
Drawing Paper
The drawing paper
that is commonly
used in drafting is
the Oslo paper or
Bond Paper.
Watercolor
Watercolor is
composed of
pigment and
mucilage, a gummy
substance from
various plants. They
are bought either in
kits or in separate
containers.
Colored Pencil
A colored pencil is an art
medium constructed of a
narrow, pigmented core
encased in a wooden
cylindrical case. Unlike
pencils, colored pencils cores
are wax- or oil-based and
contain varying proportions of
pigments, additives, and
binding agents.
