OVERVIEW

The Brindavan garden is located in the

Indian state of Karnataka. One of the
best Show Gardens Of India, it has a
beautiful Botanical Garden, colorful
fountains and boat rides to entertain
thousands of visitors

The Brindavan Gardens were made in

connection with a Dam (Krishna raja
sagara) which is built near the
Brindavan Gardens. Just below this
Dam are the beautiful gardens of
Brindavan.

OVERVIEW

The whole idea of Brindavan Gardens is

on the Ideology of Lord Krishna who
created the mythology of Raas in the
place called Mathura - Brindavan ( in
Uttar Pradesh).

The foundation of the garden was laid

in 1927 and was completed in 1932.
This garden is one of the major
attractions of the city of Mysore. 24
Km. from the famous cultural heritage
centre of Karnataka the city of Mysore,
and 143 Km. from Bangalore, the
capital city of Karnataka.

OVERVIEW

The Brindavan Garden was built in the

year 1942, by Engineer - Sir M.
Vishveswariah. He used limestone and
brick powder instead of cement to make
this Garden. The Gardens were
designed by Sir Mirza Ismail - the
progressive Diwan of Mysore. He
conceived a plan of developing a garden
inMughalstyle with a design similar to
that ofShalimar
GardensinKashmir.The work was
started in 1927. It was constructed in
aterracedfashion and named Krishna
rajendra Terrace Garden.The main
architect for the park was G.H.
Krumbigal, then Superintendent of Parks

The garden is maintained by the Cauvery Niravari Nigama (Cauvery

Irrigation Department, spread across an area of 60 acres (240,000m 2).
Adjoining it is also a fruit orchard spread across 75 acres (300,000m 2)
and 2 horticultural farms, Nagavana (30 acres) and Chandravan (5
acres).The garden is laid out in 3 terraces which contain water
fountains,Ficustrees, foliage plants such asDuranta plumaria
andEuphorbiaand flowering plants
likeCelosia,Marigoldandbougainvillea.

OVERVIEW

The garden is open to general public and an entry-fee is charged. The

garden also hastopiaryworks (sculptures of animals created by
clipping shrubs),pergolas(shaded passageway covered by creepers)
andgazebos.The main attraction of the park is the musical fountain in
which bursts of water are synchronised to the music of songs. There is
also a lake within the garden with boating facilities available for
visitors.

The garden was renovated in 2005 with a cost of Rs. 5crore.The

renovation included sprucing up the musical fountain using a digitised
system and repairs of dysfunctional fountains.In 2007, the Gardens
were closed for a brief duration as a safety measure to avoid trouble
related to theKaveri water dispute.

Only. Videography is strictly prohibited here. There is a penalty for it.
Garden Ticket Fee- Rs 20. Fee of the Garden is subject to change.

FINANCES

In the year 2003-2004, the gate collection was Rs. 2.07 crores, which
increased to Rs 2.69 crores in 2004-05 and Rs 4.3 crores in 2005-06.This
revenue is shared between Cauvery Niravari Nigam and Karnataka State
Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC) in the ratio 3:1.

ZONES

The garden has been divided into four parts -

Main Gate: Its the huge entrance of the Garden, from which gallons
of water flowing inside the garden can be seen. A slight view of the
inside attractions of the Garden can be seen from here.
South Brindavan: It is the area near the Cauvery Statue. In front of
the Cauvery Statue there is an area called the Kaveramma Circle,
containing big water fountains. On the slopes of these terraces, a
number of Ornamental plants like Bougainvillea and Cacti are grown.
This part of Brindavan Garden has a special attraction in the evenings
as the whole of the part is illuminated with colorful lights. With the
colorful and musical fountains and illuminated flower bed, it becomes a
major attraction in the morning and eye catcher in the evening.

ZONES

North Brindavan: It has four terraces

filled with various Ornamental Plants.
Shrubs of Bougainvillea, Allamanda,
Bignonia magnifica, Homskloidia sanguina
are found on the slopes of the terraces.
There is also a nursery where these
Ornamental Plants are grown and
maintained. Those who like plants and
would like to take some variety can do so.
Children's Park: Just beside the South
Brindavan there is the Children Park. In
this part, there is not only the various
rides for Children but also Food Courts
which serve South Indian and Chinese
Delicacies.

AROUND THE GARDEN

Government Fruit Orchard: Sprawling over
an area of 75 acres, it has the plantations of
Mango, Guava, Sapota, Litchi, Roseapple, Bilimbi,
Aonla, Avocado, Malayan apple, Arecanut,
Coconut.

Musical Dancing Fountain: The water effects

move or dance with music and interpret each tune
in synchronization with light and sound.

Biological Research Departments: There
are Biological Research Departments here.
Once can see and go through the various
processes which are carried out on the
Ornamental Plants to care and develop them
with the changing environment.
Krishna Raja Sagara Dam: The Dam built
across the river Cauvery is the lifeline of
Mysore and Mandya districts. Built in the year
1942, its a wonder to see and admire.
Radha Krishna Falls : Though these are
the artificial ones, but they give an impression
of real ones.
