of care for people with a mental illness.

Psychoanalytic Therapies

to overcome resistance by the client.

become aware of the resistance and


together interpret (ex. Latent
content) its underlying meaning.

more about what they are thinking and feeling.

Resistance - referred to patients blocking


memories from conscious memory.
Transference - it occurs when a person takes the
perceptions and expectations of one person and projects
these onto another person. They then interact with the other
person as if the other person is that transferred pattern.

Dream Analysis-

is the investigation of repressed


feelings that can be expressed in our dreams.
Psychoanalytic theory believes repressed feelings often
manifest themselves in our dreams.

Short-Term Dynamic Therapies


The therapy's primary goal is to help the patient overcome internal

resistance to experiencing true feelings about the present and past which
have been warded off because they are either too frightening or too painful.
